Right so I used to be stupidly fit (almost started racing mountain bikes, and used to run XC for school, got past the area champs)

But basically since I went out with my ex (always blame the ex) I've got lazy, she used to drive me everywhere, Started running again and I've picked it up fairly quickly, but trying to build a bit of upper body muscle.

I've got some 8 kg dumbbells and one of those crappy 6 second abs things (My parents bought it, it had dust on it so I thought I'd try it, it's shite, don't buy one) But yeah, was wondering what I could try to build my upper body (I'm a skinny runt btw) with what I've got? (also being a student nurse I barely have any time/money for gym) Or any websites that give a bit of advice? I've looked, but they haven't been that great and I'm never sure if I do the exercises right..

Cheers for any help

Hmmm Thinking

Anyway, I would really recommend at least seeing if theres a cheap gym in your area. The one I go to is £12 a month Very HappyThumbs Up It's shit, but it's got more stuff then I do.

If not, try and finding a boxing club. Most of them are almost entirely fitness anyway, and bag work is very good for building upper body muscles. I only did a lot of martial arts when younger, and I've always had pecs and biceps.

Bonny, thanks for that I'm thinking about joining one when I move back to ma home town, I've got a few mates at one, but it's Thai Boxing instead of Boxing. £12 a month?! Cheapest I've seen is £25! Sad

bwfc4eva86, I haven't got bank work cause annoyingly the mental health ones I've applied for don't seem to be hiring, so I'm living off a bursary, no chance of me forking out £30 a month and still paying my bills, but thanks for the suggestion

Try the above, it'll get you back to full fitness and build you up. I've been going now three and a half years (but had a year out). It may be a bit over your budget but they will give you fair discounts if you're student / low wage or have a military connection in the family (phone them and ask). The classes are good fun, the instructors motivate you and there's plenty of classes to go to - in my area there's at least two classes every day (except Friday when there's one), you can turn up at any class you like so can fit round changing schedule if necessary.

It's run all the year round - outside - regardless of weather so "proper training" Wink

What about Nursing Homes with EMI units? Ok it aint pretty, but we have one in our homes and a couple of students working as care staff while doing their Mental health branch training.

Respect to you tho for doing metal health, i hated my 2 week placement for mental health placement.

IMO, Resistance training.

Use your own body weight, press ups, with shit on your back if nessecary, sit ups, holding a phone book above your head, pull ups... You get the idea.

Spend any spare cash on extra food, chicken, eggs, protein shakes, etc

Take Care

As above ^ train using your own body weight.

If I'm ever short on money or don't have the time to go to the gym it's what I do, even if it means doing a set of press ups in between rounds on MW2 Razz hook our feet under your bed for sit ups etc

90% of trees give you the opportunity to do pull ups and even dips (great for your chest) you just look like a bit of a nob doing it.
