Good evening all,

I'm new to the forum, joined today and would just like to introduce myself, I'm Nathan and I'm 18 years old.

I recently booked myself a CBt for next month- April the 3rd to be precise.

I have never ridden a moped/motorbike before and have been recommended that I take my CBT on a 50cc Moped to start with.

I just wanted to ask, as I'm abit confused, if I pass my CBT on the 50cc moped, am I entitled to ride a motorbike up to 125cc Manual and/or Automatic transmission.

If this is correct, then I have a bike in my sights a Gilera DNA 125cc Automatic. Anyone on here owned/own one or has any feedback from riding one.

It would be used as a commuter to college everyday and work at the weekends.

Thanks all and I look forward to your comments.

Nathan

I was in exactly the same position as you in December. I did my CBT on a 125cc Manual bike, despite having never even sat on a motorcycle before I had no trouble passing. Although I think you are entitled to ride a 125cc manual after doing CBT on a 50cc Auto it seems sensible to get used to gears if you want to ride a Manual bike. I can't comment on the Gilera, the only bike I've ever ridden was the Suzuki GN125 I did my CBT on.

Yes you can ride a 125 as long as it has no more than 13 bhp. Therefore, look out for 'learner legal' or similar put on adverts. I don't agree with the poster above re: gears. If your CBT is the first time you've sat on two wheels or been out on a road, then you've got enough to worry about. Get through your CBT on a moped, then you have two options: buy your 125 and get used to the gears on your drive or a quiet side street (it really doesn't take long). Basically it's about remembering which way to shove your foot, and if you've never driven a car that should be easier.
