This is a really noobish question, but how do you know when a Supercorsa needs replacing? I have them on my track bike and I don't remember seeing any wear markers on the edge of the tyre since it is slick. I normally use road tyres with wear markers on the edge of the tyre. Do you just replace it when the wear markers in the treadded area are flat? I don't want to end up going down to the cords on the edges Laughing

It's these:

Not the other ones with even less tread.

Cheers Thumbs Up

i use my tyres pretty much until the tread on the edge of the tread pattern is completely worn unless the tyres is letting go on me alot.

but its definately personal preference with this sort of thing though peeps at trackdays may have a different opinion

When they start to lose grip or badly lose profile would be a good indicator Smile.
If you can, it’s nice to take a spare set along with you, then can get them changed at the trackday if needed.

They can often start to get quite torn up around the middle of the sides (where you’re getting on the power coming out of a corner) which can be a good sign they’re going to be losing grip.

In some cases they can turn blue as some oils (I think) are brought to the surface from getting a bit too hot too much, however I find often they’re still perfectly usable after that.

heat cycles could be another. apparantly tyres have a cycle life and after that they start to go completely shit.

i thought it was a gimmick too, but my ninja had some michelin soft tyres on (fuck knows what they were called) and they were fucking dangerous and felt like solid plastic.

If they were pilot races that’s because they are absolutely terrible until properly warmed up – they are like this from new, as I found out to my (and two other people’s) expense when I crashed on the first corner of a race taking it VERY easy.

I find heat cycles aren’t a big issue on trackdays; even with road use I find the rear tends to lose tread before significant grip from heat cycles. However it’s often noticeable that the longer lasting fronts will still have tread, but start seriously lacking grip when used on the road, where they are likely to be going through a lot more heat cycles.

i doubt it. these got so hard they cracked down to the fibres with a fair amount of rubber left on them.

Sounds like you had faulty tyres of some kind then - never had it any where near that bad with Supercorsas that have gone off from heat cycles.

i used to use those SC dragons myself and that was one of my gripes with them ...really hard to judge the wear as the line just gradually moves inwards...have to be carefull, i misjudged it once and ended up losing the front on a fairly fast chicane Confused tyre was completely fucked on closer inspection..

i changed to Diablo SCs, which are easier to read than the Dragons as well as lasting way longer Thumbs Up
