Hi, is it worth taking out the optional legal cover with bike insurance?

Is it ever going to be useful? Is it the sort of thing you can get later on when you need it, or is it literally legal costs 'insurance'??

Cheers Thumbs Up .

The way I see it:

If someone is trying to sue me then my insurance company will come up with some lawyers anyway as they don't want to have to pay out on my 3rd party insurance.

If I want to sue someone else, there are dozens of no-win-no-fee lawyers who'll do it for "free" anyway.

Waste of money.

What they do is that if you have an accident, they get to sell your claim to a no-win-no-fee solicitor.
They often get paid more for this than they made from your policy.

Plenty of people offer this scam 'insurance' for free, so there's absolutely no reason that I can see to pay for it.

Yeah, I used to think it was a good idea until I got told what it actually was. This service is simply a referral from the insurance company to one of these lawyers. Simple as that. Actually I didn't even realise they sold the claim, another reason to not do it.

Awesome, so I'd be paying £25 for my insurance company to sell my claim to a random law firm...

As great as that sounds I think I'll pass.

Thanks all Thumbs Up Karma .

Your legal expenses policy usually allows you to choose your own law firm within reason if you're unhappy with the performance of the one chosen by the insurance company.
The legal expenses policy just covers you for a certain amount of money, usually up to 50k legal expenses so it doesn't come out of your pocket if you need to represent yourself.
