Buell 1125R

Toying with the idea of a new bike, not that I need one but, I would like one. Its my main form of transport to and from work so why not spend a little money and get something nice?

Having the 1000 vs 600 debate in my head and not getting anywhere, the same with the sports vs traille / naked.

The one that pops out as being right up my chuff is the Buell.

Any thoughts or reviews from the BCF massiv?







(Just for some other closure the other bikes that caught my eye for wow factors or finance deals are as follows:

Benelli Tornado 903, certainly different and not a bad price

ZX6R or ZX10R, what can I say, I'm a Kwak man deep down.

GSXR 600 or 1000 (or even Busa), 0% and 2% finance could swing it.

BMW GS series either 800 or bigger.

Not really taken with the 0% on the R6, maybe an R1. Its all about willy size I'm afraid.

MV Augusta F4 reduced to £12k, could I really justify this?)

If yur going for looks, the Benelli is a stunningly beautiful bike.

The problem is you'd need a second bike to ride while the Benelli was in the workshop

my brother in law has the buell 1125 i had ago when it was 200miles old

i found it plenty fast enough hitting 140+ effortlessly
i found it to feel very tall and a little vibey at certain revs having said that it is a very easy bike to ride handles lovely plenty of grunt no matter whay gear or what rpm youyr at twist the grip in shes ready to fly
i didnt like the exhaust i found it very quite for a vtwin and replacement exhausts are very expensive and almost none exsistant
brakes are amazingly good i dont like the looks i think it would be better naked but thats personal choice

I'd say scratch the 600 fours, they're too buzzy for in town riding.

The Buell will have a lot of torque so will be a nice and lazy ride around town. But they can shift when you want them to. Plus they sound amazing.

The litre fours will have bags of torque too but might be a bit harsh in the masses of power, suspension and riding position.

Other than them, I wouldn't get anything exotic because it'll likely get focked by the retarded drivers in London or keyed/toppled by a jealous low life. And I wouldn't get a GS unless you want to be mistaken for Ewan McGregor or that other bloke.

I was in a bike shop yesterday, which is rare for me.

I was astonished that for £300 more, you could get a brand spanking GSXR1000 instead of an R6.

£12,500 for a new R1 is crazy money, IMO.

As for the Buell, given that they have effectively stopped being a bike brand, and support from HD has been pulled (pretty much), I'd be a little concerned with aftersales support on the new bike. Future availablity of spares may be an issue.

I'd quite like a BMW S1000RR fully-specced for commuting - I reckon the ABS and traction control would be ideal for reasonable speed filtering on nasty wet winter mornings etc.

Seeing that it'd be way out of my price range, I'm currently enjoy my GSXR 1000 K6 for daily use. It's very flexible and means there's unlikely to be much more I could ask of a bike (apart from electrically folding mirrors ).

For fun, it's not what I'd choose - too capable at going too fast means on the road you'd have to be going silly-quick. First doesn't finish until over 100mph, so by the time you're up to second or third you're at very high speeds.

The big BMW GS I don't see as a having any decent reason - get a Pan Euro, or other similar biggish tourer. That way you don't get associated with Ewan and thingie and get a generally better bike.
The smaller (800, no point going for the 650 which is the same thing) is of more interest - being a bit lighter, we're talking similar to the big KTMs weight-wise, should be enough go for easy motorway cruising, but manageable off-road. Wouldn't bother if I didn't plan to get it properly dirty, however.

Haven't ridden the latest Buell but... for me I quite liked the idea when the new fancy-tech ones were first hyped up, however the initial reviews showed that the chassis didn't offer anything too amazing despite this technology and the engine may not have been appropriate to the rest for my tastes.

Completely forgot about them stopping the brand! D'oh, aftersales and warranties would be ok in theory but a little worry in the back of the mind.

Was going to pop along to a HD dealers this am but not sure now.

I like the look of them and would presumably like the handling.
I'm not sure that I'd use one as a commuter in the damp, salty conditions of NW England. If I live in a Mediterranean climate, it would be great.

I certainly wouldn't use one for a commute, the build quality is pretty patchy, it'll just rot.

A big V-Twin also isn't great for commuting, especially in london. It's a Rotax built 1125 motor, so it's safe to say it's just an evolution of the Aprilia RSV lump.

For a commute like that I say look at the ZX10R out of your choice.
