You didn't say which Dunlop tyre you have on the rear. Dunlop make many different tyres but mine are just fine Thumbs Up

In fareness unless it's an origional Qualifier (which are notoriously shit) it will be fine.

ask around enough you'll get positive and negative feedback about any tyres

I love original qualifiers, I commute daily on them on my fazer 600 and find them grippy in all weathers and have improved the handling loads, but seeing as they're discontinued its roadsmarts next

Got dunlop roadsmarts on the bike and fast responses on the car... Love them! Loads of grip and very confidence inspiring even in the wet.

The two scariest trips I have ever had on any vehicle was with Dunlop tyres, I wouldn't go near with barge poles Thumbs Down

Tyres seem to be a pretty subjective thing, what works for one person may feel like a nightmare to the next, and similarly with bikes, certain tyres seem suit certain bikes, for example Metzeler Racetecs allegedly feel awful on many sports bikes, and yet I know folk who've previously hated them on their old bikes, and then tried them on a GSXR (seemingly specifically late model, sixes and seven fifties) and been amazed at how good they are.

For what it's worth, which given the lack of similarity to your situation is probably not a lot, when I bought my bike it had qualifiers fitted and I hated them with a passion! Superb grip when hot, but outrageously hard work to heat up in damp or cold conditions, including one trip to a local bike meet on a summer's evening where I did everything I could to heat them up, and was rewarded with nothing but nasty movement and shuffling through every corner, and stone cold tyres, even at my destination, twenty miles down the road. Kinda screwed any confidence I may have had in them... The only thing in their favour was that they held their heat exceptionally well, once it was in.

Also, to be honest, can't think of anyone who's ever expressed any love for Dunlop tyres, ever!

All of this said, best thing you can do, seeing as they're already on your bike, is make your own mind up, ride them, and see how you get on. If you forget they're there, they're doing a good job!

^ This.

If you've been riding around happy with your tyres, they're OK. If someone says they're shit, ask them why (and don't settle for "coz Michelin is better, innit" answers).

This is almost exactly what happened with me last year when I passed my DAS and started riding my SV650 with old Qualifiers on... The best single thing I did to that bike was to bin them in favour of Pilot Roads.
It was that experience that made me very nervous about picking up my Daytona 650, the garage selling it put a year's MOT on it but to get it through they replaced both tyres with Qualifier 2's Confused

And they are far, far superior to the old version, in a progressive ride out last week the roads were greasy and changing from wet to dry and back again mid-corner, the tyres and bike never flinched and I even took some off my chicken strips Mr. Green

I will see how well they last, but I think my next boots will either be these again or if i need more life, Roadsmarts.

Hi

Tyres vary between people and between models of tyres, and what suit particular bikes.

I have never been that keen on Dunlops, but plenty of others have been. Possibly some of that is down to weight. But they are far from being that bad (exception being the wet weather grip on the old Arrowmax tyres fitted to the early Aprilia AF1).

All the best

Keith

I've had an Arrowmax 501 on the back for a month and am happy with it. Very sticky compared to BT45s.

Despite the fact that many people race on Racetecs as they're nearly as good as Supercorsas, but cost less. Wink

Avoid Michelins and you'll be fine. Laughing

Which is where it becomes odd, as I generally get on with Michelins

I'm starting to sound like G, but in my experience they don't warm up very quickly and can let go quite randomly. To each their own and all that though.

For me riding on the road, not too worried about warm up time (will take it easy for the engines sake), and on the road not going to be pushing it to the point where it is likely to let go. But for me they feel secure at the speeds I am doing.

All the best

On the road they just don't feel me with confidence. On track I've had them let go even when I've gone around a corner at a speed that was fine the last lap. Even at my meagre speeds.
