my dad has managed to pick up a japanese import 1992 rmx 250 and needs to rebuild the rear shock to get it through the MOT but there is next to no information about parts online.
does anyone know of either a source of information of which parts can also fit onto an rmx from other bikes or anywhere that does cheapish rebuilds or kits? i can only find a place in new zealand or somewhere in europe that charges £100 for 4 seals.

How about using OEM parts.

You can find the part numbers here :

https://shop.thumpertalk.com/oem.asp?category=3&manufacturer=5&year=1992&model=2003

Then order them from your local dealer.

Cheers Wheely, i didn't know that facility even existed! the main issue we're having is that dad's is a Japanese import for the Japanese/Australian market.

"This is the MX based RMX American and European markets.

The sj13a autolube RMX is Japan and Australia I think. So most US sites only list the MX based models. Mine is called either the SJ13A (there is also an SJ14A) or RMX 250 SN, SM or SP.

The test on the sites such as thumper talk is whether the full dipping headlamp is included in the loom diagram the MX based ones do not have autolube, speedo, or the complex loom. They have a trip meter and ignition circuit only and no ignition switch."

Ah ok. Have you tried walking into a dealer, and giving them your frame number so they can find and possibly order parts ??

you dont need to pay £100

there are two on ebay

one for £60 that will accept lower offers
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUZUKI-RMX250-SHOCK-REAR-RMX-250-0B_W0QQitemZ400046240517QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item5d249d3305#ht_1762wt_956

and another which is an auction which is currently at £25 with 4 days to go
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUZUKI-RMX250-RMX-250-SHOCK_W0QQitemZ250600720999QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item3a58f78a67#ht_3179wt_956

a yet cheaper option would simply be to take it to another MOT place that are less picky

Less picky ?? It is an MOT failure for having movement/play in the rear shock.

It will be a judgement call, some people will be more lenient.

I understand that some people prefer to accept the first judgement they receive, and that's fine

Like I said, there are shocks on ebay cheaper than £100 rebuild cost.

IMO that is likely a bearing rather than a shock problem.

unfortuanately so, i've spoke to the guys at robinsons suzuki and at first we thought we had it but then the guy on the phone ended up as confused as us. he even sent me over the pdf files they use to compare to the parts we already have but i've not had a chance to check yet.
