I need to connect this:

Complete noob when it comes to audio set-ups so I need to know what cables I will need and any other useful info.

id hazard a guess at speaker cable.
strip the ends bare and insert into the clamps on the back of the speakers and then tie round the posts on the amp and screw down the cap.
be sure to observe polarity is the same on both speakers.

Not very helpful if you don't want to installl it in a car though Smile

Basically as said you need to connect the phono's (red & white plugged lead) to your source device (CD Player etc..) then connect the speaker cables up (normally just come as a reel so just cut it to the required length). Job's done.

On the 2 core speaker cables one core will have either printing or a moulded rib. Use this to identify the red and block wires (i.e. printed/rib wire to red in amp and speaker(s) other one into black).

There's a lot of tosh spoken about speaker cables and the quality. Basically always a good idea to get the best you can afford. These tend to be the thicker ones. Downside of that is these are not as easy to hide and bend around corners if required. That said I've known people run speakers on bell wire and mains cable. Really depends on (a) your amp (b) your speakers and (c) how rich your are.

This has been a useful reminder for a to do job. Before we decorated I think my cables were old QED 79 strand. Not got around to reinstalling. Maybe I'll sort it out as a job for Easter.

Got it sorted now, the silver ones above the +ve -ve ones are 6.3mm audio jacks. The one on the left is input, the one on the right is for 'piggybacking' another speaker (on the speaker, on the amp it's just L/R).

I connected a 6.3mm monitor headphone cable to the amp for now jobs done. Just need to buy some decent cables tomorrow.

As well as jacks and binding posts you also appear to have speakON connectors, which are the bee's knees. Fully insulated on the outside and no risk of momentarily shorting the amp when plugging stuff in, and they also twist and lock so you can't pull them out by accident. Your amp won't sound better or worse but the connector is far superior to a jack or bare cables.

Normal 13A mains cable (using 2 of the 3 conductors) works great for speakers too. I wire up all the recording studios here that still use passive speakers with it and it's great. I also tin the ends which means you get a nice tight fitting and no stray strands. It's a complete waste of money being sucked into the audiophile world with fancy cables.

So yeah it doesn't matter what you use really. Cheapest, easiest option is mains cable with bare ends into the binding posts on amp and speakers. Best 'practice' would be using speakONs on the amp and jacks on the speakers if you know there's a chance of stuff being pulled/stressed in that area.

Also, banana plugs are absolutely evil, freshly squeezed from the bum of Satan himself. You don't see them that often on modern gear, but they used to be everywhere.

with the exception on your speakers you have the square connectors. Just push down on the tab at the bottom (spring loaded) and slide the cable in the now open hole , then release.

sorted the problem a while ago, thanks for the effort though Smile

It was more a worry about damaging the speakers than how to connect them up.

Whoever said about the speakon cables, they are really good, just a shame these speakers don't have them.
