hi, ive noticed recently that my zxr750 is having a few issues and im not sure what it is.
when i start the bike and then put it into first, the bike will jump forward slightly, and pull slightly even with the clutch pulled in. sometimes it will stall as well when i change into first. once its warm it doesnt do it.
also when giving it some revs, sometimes the revs rise as if the clutch is being slipped slightly. doesnt happen lots, just every now and again.
im guessing its something to do with the clutch but thats as far as ive got! im not the most technical person!
any ideas on what it could be?
my bike is a 96 L3 model with 25k on the clock, oil and filter change done about a 1000 miles ago.
cheers
dan

Adjust the clutch using the adjuster on the lever until it goes into gear without a bang with the clutch pulled in and doesn't try to move. Go for a ride and see if the clutch slips at all. If it does back the lever adjustment down a bit. If you can't find a happy place between the 2 you will need to change the clutch plates.

Another possible cause is that the oil is dirty as hell or too thick causing clutch drag. Unless they have been replaced in the last 1000 miles it would be worth changing the oil and filter to see if it helps.

You could always change the lot provided you have the budget.

Did you put bike oil or car oil in there?

it was bike oil, semi synthetic 10w40 as reccomended in the book.
it did it before i changed the oil too. that was one of the reasons i changed it incase that was the prob, but it still happens intermittently.

Really, get a manual and follow the instructions. Clutches are considered consumables so are relativly easy to change (on jap bikes anyway).

It really isn't that difficult

General summary:
Drain oil
Take engine case off (like 8 bolts?)
Undo clutch springs (5 bolts)
Pull off plates
Replace with new plates
Put it all back together again.

I've you've done it once before its a half hour job. If you've never done it take your time and you'll be done in an hour easy.

its not that it was difficult just that i was upside down and the filter is in a quite tight place to get and i thought i was turning it the right way but i was back to front!
im not really that bad when it comes to basic stuff, i just dont like doing anything im not sure about incase i cock it up and it costs me a bomb to fix

For a dirt bike, but same principle - not as scary to replace a clutch as it might seem...

thanks guys, seems easy enough on that vid. my only real query is the fact that its so intermittent. it probably only happens 5% of my riding. i'd have thought it would happen more regularly if it was worn parts?
