Iridium spark plugs

I know this topic probably comes up a lot, And I know that they are mostly a waste of money, But I have always been curious as to whether anyone has noticed any benefits of using these at all.

Benefits (Apparently) include:
Increased MPG
Better cold starting
Increased power
Less smoke


Anyone even get one of these?

Not much difference at all on a TDR125.

Infact, it felt like it had more power on the standard type plug.

The YBR started very reliably (first time even when it was minus temperatures in the early morning) with one in all winter. Not sure if it made any performance gains though, but they do last well. It was looking good after 4'000 miles. They are also supposed to put less load on the electrics. Never really get smoke anyway. MPG I think has been the same (90-100). It's only a few quid more for a single so not really a big waste.

I've used the standard plugs and iridiums, I'd like to be believe they give me improved mpg and that I get a better spark, but I'm not so sure.

However, based on the fact that I can get a pair off ebay for £13 delivered, and the standard plugs are £8-10 each from the likes of HG, Halfords, and the dealers I'll keep fitting the iridiums.

The main advantage of iridium plugs is the fact they (supposedly) last longer.
But then they cost twice asmuch usually, unless like Lee you can find them cheaper online.

They are reputed to give a better spark, therefore more efficient combustion which in turn should give better mpg and more power - but if they do then its negligable.
The downside to them is that you cant clean them up like a 'normal' plug, so not ideal for 2 strokes really.

they can improve power.....to the order of 2% or so in SOME engines.

Main advantages are as stated, better cold starting and they last longer than stock plugs.

When my outfits valve guid wore out and started to burn oil it also turns out they cope better with oil fouling than a stock plug too.

I got some for mine and the bike seems to run alot smoother and strarts better. Don't know if tis the plugs or just the fact that they needed changing.

As already said, Look online, I got mine for the same price as a set of standard plugs, So the extra expense wasn't an issue.

lots of recent bikes DO come with them from the factory. Particularly bikes with hard to reach plugs.
