Apologies for stating the blatantly obvious but I can't imagine I'm the only one who thinks the war on terror is simple a government front for passing obscene legislation.

The root of all evil seems to be the ubiquitious "terrorists" these days, terrorists cause this, terrorists cause that... etc etc

Anyone else feel like this is simply building up to a point where any opponents of the authority are labelled "terrorists" and as such can be "dealt with".....

From what I've read/heard apparently in the US current propaganda is that you support terrorism if you buy drugs..... Obviously if you buy a joint the money goes straight into the "terrorist's" pocket Rolling Eyes Laughing

****** Godwin's Law Bonus Points ******

Swap the word terrorists for jews in nazi party political hate propaganda.....

(Not sure how terrorists are destroying the UK's economy to be fair, but they are! Trust us on this one! Laughing Laughing )[/quote]

Well there is a mark up which goes to the dealers, but afaik the production and sale of opiates is the main income for the Taliban, and normal Afghan farmers. Question

All the more reason for them to legalize it.

I point you to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6t1EM4Onao

Agree with that.

The War on Terror is nothing more than a soundbite that gave all the things Ulthar said above a patina of acceptability. US/UK governments basically wanted to create then give a brand to the stick they always seem to need to beat us all with.

Gore Vidal said it best: 'The war against terror is like the war against dandruff, I mean it's a metaphor. It doesn't mean anything...'

Thumbs Up

I'm fairly sure governments build up these 'enemies' as ways to keep us worried. After the cold war ended they had to invent someone else for us to be afraid of, Anyone else find it funny as soon as the cold war was over Desert Storm kicked off?

It's not just enemies is it there is always something in the news we should worry about, the recession, swine flu, fuel prices etc etc.

God I sound like hetzer Laughing

Has there ever been a day when there wasn't some threat to us?

No, otherwise no papers would get sold and they'd be fuck all to talk about on the evening news.

Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

(famous nazi)

The same attitude expressed privately by Blair and Bush no doubt.

They need to scare us with something that justifies them taking from us.

Its always been this way. The crusades was about control of the lucrative trade route called the silk road between europe and asia.

Enjoyed that, it's nice to see some "high-standing members of society" talking sense for once!

+1 for legalisation, most of the illegal drugs are actually quite simple on a chemical level. The synthesis are not particularly hard for most (assuming a proper lab) and I'm sure they could be cranked out of a pharma factory for prices equal or lower than that of modern complex medicines.
