Hi,

This is my first ever post so bare with me.

I have a Hyosung 125 Cruise 2 which I have been riding for about a year and a half. About 4 months ago I put it away in a garage as I was going back to Northern Ireland for a few months.
It ran perfect before I left, other than a flat tyre and and a slight engine oil leak.
Since I have been home I have tried to start it but have had no joy.
There is Petrol and enough engine oil still in the bike so thats fine.
When I press the start button it tries to turn over but it won't catch. I think the battery is fine as the lights and horn are grand.

Can anyone give me a bit of advice on what things I can try myself to fix it?

I think the fact it's Chinese - might be the problem Laughing

Sorry, I have no idea...perhaps if you had posted in the Workshop section, some technically minded bod might have an idea. Thumbs Up

I'd suggest old fuel - try draining tank and buying new or topping up with new if already lowish and see if that helps! Confused

If it was just the fuel being old would it splutter or anything like that?

Hyosung are Korrean and the quality is actually pretty good, they used to build engines under contract for Suzuki.

Stick the battery on charge and replace the petrol with fresh stuff you might as well replace the plug too. I reckon it would start.

It iritates me when people state there opinion as fact whent they don't know what they are talking about especially when people are asking for advice.

If the bike hasn't been used for 4 months... which would have been all over the big freeze we had.... then the battery must be flat.

In your header post you said it 'tries' to turn over. It stands to reason that a battery stood idle for 4 months through a hard winter has to have little or no charge in it.
The first thing anyone would do is put some charge in it.

Like I said I'll definately try it, just wanted as much advice as possible before I go back to it, so if that's not the problem I'll have other things to try.

For a petrol engine to run it needs a spark with fuel and air in the right ratio (and other stuff like compression, but that's the basics.)

After being sat for a while the battery can definitely start to get a bit weak, however if it's turning over reasonably, that's probably not the issue.
It's quite possible your carb has got gummed up as stuff has settled over that time, meaning you're not getting enough fuel along with a bit weak spark this can easily be the problem.

The age of the fuel it's self shouldn't be a big problem - I've ran engines with several year old fuel ok.

I see by your username you're not too far from me - if you don't get it sorted I don't mind popping over and having a quick look after work/at lunch time when I'm free - as I commute across Reading every day.

I think he's (?) one of those that calls running turning over, so it's trying to run as far as i can tell and not just trying to turn over, confused yet?

Just to be clear until someone tells us all otherwise, since the turning over thing seems to cause so many problems.

If the starter is turning the engine - it is turning over
If it does start - it is running
If it is clicking its tits off - set fire to it

Oh no, last one should be - charge the battery (usually) sorry, easy mistake

G- thanks for that its good to know that its not necessarily petrol or bat.

Thinking it might be the spark plug, I'll check the carb too!!!

Thanks so much for the offer to help might just take you up on that if the problem doesn't get resolved. Very Happy

bramble43

Yeah I definately find it hard to tell the different between those and how people refer to it. Totally crap with the terminology myself.

Basically when I press the starter button it makes lots of noise but the engine doesn't set off on its own. So to me that's it turning over right.
Definately no clicking tho.

Yeah, it's turning over.

Sounds like it may be firing (igniting) but not actually starting.

I'd go with what others before me have said and change the fuel and plugs and give it a go then
