ok well im looking a picking up a new sportsbike in the next week or two, yet to test ride, ive narrowed it down to proberbly the following :

- ZX6R - Guessing around a 1998 / 1999 model

- GSXR 600 - hopefully a 2001 model

- R6 - Thinking it will proberbly be an early one, 1999

was also looking at a 750 GSXR but it is double the insurance on a 1998 plate, so would have to be a massive reason to choose that.

soo what are peoples opinions on choosing from that list if we say all are tidy models, average milage with 12 months MOT

Looking for a bike to have a blast around in the summer on, travel to uni 5 days a week

thanks guys Very Happy

Most people who've had both tend to rate R6s as the better bike, but at 2 grand you'll be sifting through an awful lot of nails that have been pretty much thrashed to death.

A ZX6r will likely be a safer buy and for that reason that's where my money would go.

As far as the gsxrs go, it'd make more sense to save the money and buy an SRAD rather than a K1/2 no? Tons of choice and you can pick them up for peanuts.

ok thanks guys, i just thought that a K1 was supposed to be the "better" model,

but i understand what you mean, try and pick out a mint srad for less money

the k1 is better then the srad,
but a 2000 budget buying a srad means you have your pick of the bunch,

were £2000 on a k1 might not buy the best example,

but saying that you never know to you look Wink

I reckon you could probably get a newer ZX6R for less than 2K if you shopped around - I know I would not be looking for more than that for my 02 model 636 if I was selling (which im not)

I'm surprised with that shopping list that you're not looking at the CBR600 too? Out of the list you've got, I'd probably look at the R6 or the GSXR (if you can find a GSXR for the money).

You could get a tidy 98/99 'blade for £2k and you're more likely to find one in good, well cared for condition than you are a 00-02 600. Not much in it speed wise but tons more grunt.

you'd be able to get an r6 at the upper end of the scale for 2k.
I got mine for 1250 with 18k on the clocks (2000)

ive owned all the bikes you've listed (my gsxr was a srad though), still have the ninja and r6 and the r6 is a better bike in every possible way ive found

middle aged gsxrs like srad and early k models crash very well. Mine was flipped, smashed into kerbs and smashed through snowdrifts at about 30mph and came out dandy(ish)

ninja is just a massive gay tank. I put mine in the garage yesterday and to sit on compared to the r6 makes it feel like a cruiser
also if you do buy one, make sure its a j2 and not a j1. (2001 onwards are ok)

I managed to get a k2 gsxr for £1900 with only 14000 miles on the clocks but it was the first one I had found at that price which didnt look like a heap of shite tbh. It would probably be easier to find an early, reasonable conditioned R6 for the sort of price you are looking at paying. There are however an abundance of cheap good cond zx6rs out there but they generally have 20k + on the clocks from what I saw when recently bike hunting.

maybe people have not noticed but bike prices are drastically up so what you paid for your bike how every many donkeys ago is irrelevant today (no offence)

k1/2 gsxr and
99-02 r6's are not as cheap as they once were.

it might be a case of get the best you can for your budget regardless of model,
or wait till summer and see if prices drop Thumbs Up

the blade seems good, the only thing ive seen so far it doesnt "do it for me" in the looks catagory, but maybe i need to hunt down a nicer scheme than the one i saw

Ladies swoon at the mere mention of a Fireblade. Knickers fall in unison once you tell them you own one.

"Fireblades - getting ugly men into women's knickers since 1994"
