Noticed a few months ago that the Gixxer would flash up FI on the dash and the oil light came on. For a while it would go away if you just turned it off while riding or whatever and back on. But over the last couple of weeks it's stayed on constantly and today I managed to get round to trying to get it sorted.
After doing the 'paper clip' trick to get it in dealer mode, the actual error code was C46, which is the Exhaust control valve actuator not working correctly, which is what I thought as the bike wouldn't rev out above 6K (I assumed the butterfly was only half open or so and not allowing the gases to escape properly). After going through the manual and following the steps, it turned out that just cleaning the contacts has solved the problem, and the FI light is now gone and the bike revs cleanly through the range now.
My question is, does anyone have any experience of disabling the EXVCA/SET? On some forums people mention just disconnecting the cables that control the EXVCA or cutting wires into the ECU, but some of these seem a bit dodgy and I dont want to be bodging it and find that a few months later I've actually done more damage.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
