Alittle confused

Hi there!

I turned 18 about 5 months ago and I still haven't bothered to learn to drive, mainly because I'm not that fussed, but riding really appeals to me so, I've been thinking about getting a bike to travel to and from college aswell as just for some freedom. After two years of wanting to ride I've finally got enough money to do so. The problem is I'm alittle confused about how to go about getting my licence and such.

First of all I know you do your CBT first but after that im not sure what to do?

Do I get a 125 and ride it for a few months to get some experience then take my full restricted test?

Or can you just go straight from your CBT to your restricted?

I've been trying to research it on the interweb but some sites seem to contradict another.

Another thing is how long it takes to get your licence.

Any help would be appriciated. Thumbs Up

The fast way.

Das - It starts with your cbt, then a few lessons on a larger bike then you do the mod1 and mod2 bike tests. full licence Very Happy

You can do the restricted licence, which is mod1 and mod2 with the CBT as a compressed course exactly the same as the DAS course.

The difference is the size bike you do it on, and that the restricted licence restricts you to 33bhp for two years after getting your licence after which it is an unrestricted licence.

Call round a few of your local riding schools and chat it over with them, budget £600 for it and you should be right.

That's helped to clear a few things up, now just to get my CBT done and see where things go from there.

Get your CBT done first this will let you hoon about on a 125 spend a while on that prat about be silly make all the stupid mistakes then see about doing your test, the extra experience will help.

If you dig around on ebay and bide your time you will be able to pick up a 125 for a good price
You will then likely lose very little when you sell it, if you lose anything at all. Leaner legal 125 bikes carry a premium. So once they are a few years old they dont depreciate much more.

You need to do the CBT anyway, so do that. You may not like it, so do it on their bikes using their equipment. You dont want to end up with all the bike gear then not like riding a bike. Smile

If you dont know anyone in the area to recommend a riding school ask around your local dealers. If they arent associated with one, they will be able to recommend one. And they wont be associated with / recommend crap ones

Talk to the salespeople as well, chances are they ride bikes, so they will recommend who they did theirs with etc etc

If by some small stroke of chance you are in the Blackpool area, raceways and honda both use the same school. I used them, recommended. Cant remember the name, but easy to find, just ring Raceways (fleetwood) as he is based there. Thumbs Up
