Need to sort out the carb for the Comet. Not sure I want to spend the money on a GP carb though. Unfortunately a new carb is £375.

It is for the Badger, she has expensive tastes. The trouble is that I am at present using an Amal Concentric from the 60/70s and as I race in vintage classes there is a conflict, they require a carb with a remote float and although my GP is a modern copy of a vintage racing carb it complies with regs. Whilst I was loosing it was not a problem but the bike is getting quicker and is rising up the leader-board and there have been murmurings of discontent.
BTW the float chamber is another £100.

Whats so good about an Amal carb ?
Is there really not a jap or other make that can do it cheaper and better ?

I am genuinely interested in what makes it so good .. as I have heard of Amal, but thats it.
Had a quick look on ebay.. and even old grotty ones with bits missing are going for a fait few quid.

Wow, that's a bit dear! Why not use an old SU carb? The HS type have a separate float chamber, so would presumably satisfy the regs. Available from about £10 used.

Can see why you need a big period carb that performs, but Fook me thats alot of money!

I was thinking that a new Kehin PWK33 for my KMX project was alot of cash to spend on a carb, but i reckon a BDK engine re-build and tune would come in at less than that tbh!
