Friendly alternatives to Itunes

Right, I has an Ipod (infact I has 2 x 4gb Ipods now, long story).

Itunes ignores half my music, and I'm too lazy to try and re-acquire it all.

So, what programs can I use that will allow me to;

Search
Make Playlists
Cherry-pick 4gb out of ~9ish to upload to said Ipods
Allow me to upload .wma's

Got Floola, winamp and Foobar2000 (which /should/ work, but I dunno how to get the Ipod Manager bit to work ).

I was given an ipod, which I had to admit was nicer to use than a normal mp3 player, but i didnt like the idea you have to synch.

I just wanted to put what i wanted on it, like i would any flash memory mp3 player.

Winamp does that for me.

I cant remember if you have to set it up or something. I vaguely remember, that you need to tell the ipod that it needs to be useable as a flash drive, and you do that in itunes. Cant remember details.

Definitely worth doing though.

Winamp is good. Itunes is a bit of a pain. I like media monkey too, but dont know how to use that to link to an ipod, so mostly I use winamp.

Winamp is even capable of doing something really clever, which letting a mobile device link to your home pc to access all the music there. I think this is done with smart phones that have wifi.

Sharepod.

It satisfies your criteria, and it's so much simpler and less intrusive than the iTunes virus. I only stopped using it when I went to an iPhone (however by looking for the link, I've found it now supports iPhones too \o/

I used to keep it actually on my iPod and run it from there, so I could manage my music on any PC. You may need to install Microsoft's .NET framework, but chances are you've got that already.

Crap as itunes is I have found although many other players claim to support ipods they often have trouble with the new ipods and struggle to properly sync album art etc. I have itunes on for my itouch but play all my music using foobar.

Maybe give songbird a try? Last time I used it it didn't support album art on my old nano 4g however that was about a year ago and the do seem to be quite active developing it.

Winamp has gone all crap over the last few years, it used to be a good no frills mp3 player and now its got a whole load of crap on it and it plays videos etc. That is why I switched to Foobar.

How does one install these components in foobar then?

Couldn't give a monkeys about album art, and it actively irritates me.

Sharepod looks good, but floola is also one of those 'install it on the ipod only' type things. Which confuses merry bejeesus out of me.

Does look more my thing though What is a 'Net Framework' and why do I need it?

To add the components to foobar you just put the file in the components folder in the install directory of foobar.
