I figured I would start a thread in here.

Anyway, finally got the zxr engine back together (hopefully with everything in the right place), managed to get it down the stairs and with a bit of grunting/swearing/sweating/blood/creativity I managed to get it back in the frame and connected up.

I put some oil in and done a couple of test turns of the engine and everything seemed to move smoothly enough (even tried putting it in gear and turning the back wheel with the spark plugs out).

Now the problem seems to be getting the fucker to start...

First attempt, and the battery went flat very quickly, so I hooked up the gpz battery and after some titting about

6th attempt, I should point out that if I'd known it was that close to starting I would never have let go of the start button.

Close, but no cigar.

I had charged one of the batteries for about 16 hours yesterday, and it seemed they just weren't lasting long enough, so I figured since there were a few tyre/battery/exhaust places around I'd go and try mooching a battery. At the third place I tried I managed to get one free (the scrappies had got to the others first), brought it home and hooked it up to the charger and it said it was about 50% charged, so figured I would have another bash, but after connecting it all up the rain started getting a bit heavy and since some of the electricals are exposed I called it quits until it calms down a bit.

Anyway, the problems I have (other than getting it started), are the back tyre is completely flat, the exhaust is totally fucked, I still don't have proper rear engine mounts (although I was told to just use some m10 threaded rod Confused).

That should fire up once you get a good battery on there. Thumbs Up

I get the feeling it will be mildly loud with that exhaust on though. Laughing

Stuff something in the exhaust, get yourself some back pressure.

Fair play that you've managed to button up an engine from the two you had, with no additional new or used spares. I didn't think you'd be able to get this far with what you had really.

All I can say is that it's definitely trying now, (no I don't mean your patience), and hopefully over the weekend you will have her running, and hopefully reasonably well considering what you had to work with.

I assume the carbs are all cleaned out and the float bowls are all filling ok. Id just check them over and make sure your getting fuel to all of them and that there's no water go into the fuel system anywhere while it's been standing outside? How old is the fuel in the tank? a litre or so of fresh juice can make it much easier to start if the fuel has been standing a couple of months or so.

Are you getting a nice fat blue spark from each plug when you take the plugs out? If so I think it just needs a bit more perseverance and it will fire up then.

I'm hoping for you that it sounds ok, has reasonable compression, and doesn't smoke too much, and the clutch and box are working fine too, but getting it running in the first place will be a good start and an achievement when you look at where you started from! Thumbs Up

Jesus christ, the fact that you've got this far is commendable I think.

I don't really know anything about engines, but just wanted to give you some encouragement! Lovely bike, hope it starts up for you.
