I'm pissing off to Oireland for the weekend come friday morning.

We're staying right near Temple Bar (apparently).

I havent been to Dubz before - so BCF, you veritable gushing fountain of knowledge, you kings and queens of mortal men - wheres good for getting battered and having an absolutely awesome time?

Before anyone mentions expense...I already know. *Fawbish cups his balls gently and his wallet soothingly*

Any stories, memories? Throw 'em out there people.

Go to the Brazen Head, it's the oldest pub in dublin I spent new year there it is amazing at least have one decent night there, they do good food too. Buy tickets for the tour bus, When i went I think it was about 20 euros for the week, this is a bargin, not only does it give you a guided tour but it is the easiest way around the city. Try to move out of Temple Bar it is ok but abit too touristy. Obviously the Guiness Factory is a must but the best thing to do is wander about Dublin is brilliant for just having a mooch about. I went to many a brilliant pub just by walking in random directions. Oh BTW beer is really expensive, It cost me 12 euros for 8 cans in a supermarket and it was about 5 euros a pint in the pubs. If it's nice a picnic in St Stephens Green is good.

Dublin didn't do much for me with only a limited amount of really interesting places to visit. Also contrary to popular opinion the best stout brewed in Ireland is available here. https://www.porterhousebrewco.com/
With some good beers also available here. https://www.messrsmaguire.ie/
Temple Bar is a bit kitch. I can't comment on the all night drinking scene as I was in bed by 10:30pm Smile

Agreed. Full of people that are only there because "it's the place to be", desperately trying to pretend it is every bit as good as everyone says.

Saying that, we didn't find anywhere better! I actually liked Dublin a lot, but don't go under the illusion that its like Magaluf on Guinness like I did!

lol, Christ, I wouldnt be assuming its anything like Magaluf.

For reference, one of my most awesome nights out, and one I wont remember, ever, was in Rome, on a bike trip. We got so fucked it was unreal.

So Im not under any illusions. Just looking for some craic!

Cheers everyone so far.

There are some great little villages around Dublin you can visit for daytime drinking, You can get the coastal train and visit some proper irish pubs. Dublin nightlife is a little bit construceted by the irish for the americans/english, playing up to what they want to see.

Trinity college is quite a lovely buliding worth a visit and you shouldnt really miss o connell street, it huge!

but other than thatyeah, you can still get smashed in and around dublin without looking too hard!

The George pub on Georges street is great.

Hope you've got a shite load of euros Shocked
The most I was raped for a pint was 8.5 euros in temple bar last year. Average in centre 5 euros a pint.
Food is stupidly expensive in temple bar DO NOT EAT IN TEMPLE BAR AREA. Otherwise there are loads of places to see, the tour passes are normally 2 days not a week but worth doing to see what's what. Most bars in centre have live music, defo visit guiness factory, dublin gaol also worth a frequent.
** note : just read your comment about expense, sorry n'all but it's the first thing I think of when anyone mentions dublin lol **

I went in June with a group of 10 lads including oneself. Stayed in the Harcourt hotel which was a top hotel, restaurant AND one of the best nightclubs in Dublin. Couldn't tell you the names of ANYWHERE but there was a good place with an open roof about 2 mins from the Harcourt, and another one near temple bar, but about 10 flights of stairs to get up to the roof garden bar.
Couple of places we found good, but only due to the locals' enjoyment of a group of crazy Scottish lads on a "bad shirt night" (wearing the foulest shirt you have in your collection or can find in a shop, e.g Hawaiin or pink with studs).
It's like anywhere really, don't ask the locals what the best nightclubs are, they'll recommend the ones best for locals, such as Copperface Jacks (aka Slapperface Jacks) as you'll easily pull a dirty in there. If you're a tourist it's far better going where the locals socialise and mess around with fun tourists. I got given a ginger wig and was dancing and doing shots with a large group of locals, though my friends are less outgoing at times.

Only had one drink in Temple bar, was a bit "meh" really.

I never paid much more than 5 Euro a pint, I had to brilliant meal in Temple bar the most expensive being around 15 Euro a head.

This was December/Jan 08/09

It was more expensive than over here on the booze food was about the same, but the quality for food was far superior.

I'm off to Dublin on Thursday... £88 return on stena line. Only problem with taking the bike is parking it somewhere safe, bonus is you can take as much luggage as your bike will carry. I'm ok as my dad lives over there (Dublin 4, south-side! Cool ) and his apartment has secure underground parking. If you do fly, you'll have to get from the airport to your hotel. The air coach is 15euros return and they pretty much drop you off in all the major places in dublin.

I've managed to blow well over £400 in a long weekend, but that did include a rather expensive trip to shelburn dog track (well worth a night out, starts at 7ish, finishes at 10ish). Stay away from temple bar. It's full of fat business men letching at the hen-do mob. There's nearly always a fight and the drinks are way over priced (8 quid a pint in some places! Shocked ). Go to Harcourt Street for the clubs. There's D-TWO (underneath the Harcourt Hotel) and "Copper Face Jacks"(known locally as Slapper Face Jacks, or simply "Slappers" for obvious reasons... If you don't pull in there you must be a proper munter!). The clubs down there are much cheaper than Temple Bar and it's mostly full of Irish folk... the blokes are sound and the lasses are well up for it! Wink Just jump in a taxi and ask to be taken to Harcourt Street... The driver will probably ask if you're off to "Slappers" and as they've probably already been past there a few times, you usually get a "totty forecast"! . Don't get there too early though, the clubs don't get busy until well after midnight, so pace yourself. If you want somewhere good to drink before hitting the clubs, "Russel Court" in Harcourt Street is fantastic, cheap (for Dublin) and it has a massive outdoor area with heaters for the smokers. Usually plenty of talent in there too!

The Guinness tour is worth the 14euros if you like the stuff and Dublin Zoo was a surprisingly good day out! Other than that, Grafton Street for the buskers is a must! And I hope you have a good time over there! I can't get enough of the place!

Hope that helps

Drew

p.s, If you must go to temple bar... go on a sunday night and pop into the "MEZZ Bar". There's a load of folk who turn up with their own instruments and jam all night. They're usually pretty good and the tranvestite saxophone player is a must see!

There's about 6 "the oldest pubs in dublin"... Although Brazenhead is a very good pub.

Sounds like Russel Court on Harcourt Street. Was there a BBQ at the back and loads of plants and shit all over?

They have traced it back to 1198 apparantly, I can't imagine there is one that is older.
