Looks like Ducati are going to ditch the trellis frame, in fact they're loosing the frame all together!

MCN are reporting.

They'll drag this on with 'exclusive factory pics' for the next 15 years, and then the production model will actually launch in 2046.

Wait, what?

So how does this work then? Everything is attached directly to the engine?

Using the engine as a fully stressed member is perhaps best demonstrated by the Britten Bike.

If there's ever a term I wasn't comfortable with I think it's "structural airbox".

Don't worry, they're just trying to scare you - the zx10 amongst others has a frame that's an airbox, so did my husaberg come to think of it.
Ok, they were one piece rather than two piece frames, but frankly it doesn't really push the boundaries of bike design that much.

Still i like how the Europeans are really throwing down the gauntlet to the Japanese. You'll find no gentleman's agreement on this continent.

I imagine it'll be another 2 years before the Japanese match the S1000RR

Not a particularly new concept - in fact Bimota's DB7 uses the (Ducati) engine as a stressed member, and that came out 2 years ago.
