I am looking for suggestions on somewhere to store stuff and how to put it on the bike.

Any ideas ? Pictures would be helpful and I know that almost everyone takes a pic of their bike before they set off on a journey when it is laden with stuff.

I have a tank bag and 2 soft bags which hang down the side of the bike. If I take a pillion passenger with me, where could a tent (and another bag) possibly go ?

I have seen some pictures with people taking spare tyres, etc with them and it seems like a nice balancing act - dont know how half the gear stays on when they are riding.

Here is a picture of my bike (with nothing on it):

To carry a pillion and gear on a bike like that, you'll need ( as you've mentioned you have ) panniers and/maybe a tank bag, to carry camping gear as well you'll need to look into either a small Renntec rack that will attach using bolts under the rear seat pad or look into Ventura racks that attach using the bolts/screws from under the rear of the bike that hold on the undertray...

On my old Zephyr I used a Renntec rack as that's all I ever needed to carry me, the Missus and rally gear, on the SV I have now I've just ordered the Ventura system, not cheap granted but a mate has one on his Thunder Thunder, Thunder Thunder Cat and he won't go with out, I haven't ordered the bags though as for around 100 quid a pop ( Fuck That ) I'll stick with the bag I use thanks...

With your bike being fairly newish though I'm not sure whether either company do the racks for yours so you'll have to look into it...

That's not duct tape, in asia they often use a piece of rubber which I assume is made from an old inner tube. Quite effective actually.

All the camping gear is in that big yellow bag 44l £6 from Aldi 100% waterproof.

It contains:
1 2mail semi geodesic tend.
2 sleeping bags (1 season only)
2 self inflating matts
2 self inflating pillows

I took 1 pannier, the girlfriend took the other. Plus she also needed a 15-20L bag which i attached to the big yellow bag.

I use 2 hard panniers and a small Renntec rack. All my gear fits into the panniers and the tent across the back on the rack. I don't like tank bags, but put a map case there.
I use a 3 season bag and have been cold some nigts so not sure about a 1 season one. Mummy bags roll up smallish.
You need insulation, blow up matress and pillow take up less room than self inflating and also cost a lot less.
Reduce the number of clothes to 2 riding teeshirts and 2 or 3 for off bike use. I pair of jeans and 1 pair of shorts. Cheap plimsoles are great as they fold flat. washing gear to a minimum, hair and body wash is all the soap you need. travel electric razor takes less room and more convenient.
Trangina cooker takes up a minimal amount of room and food can be got locally.
The best way is to get out everything you want then drastically reduce it to the minimum.
Remember less is best.

I'd say your best bet would be to get hold of a Ventura system, as Adam79 said.

Another option is to get hold of a universal Givi Wingrack. I nabbed one for £60 posted, from eBay. A further £40, and it's blasted and resprayed good as new!
But then between my father and I we have 4 large Givi boxes..
Oh, and if you're unsure if you can fit it to your bike, I can bet almost any local fabrication company will make up the brackets for your bike personally.

As barnhatter said (and it'll be echoed a hundred times over), keep things to a minimum. I went away for three week with a topbox and tank bag, and I still had stuff I didn't need. I'd recommend grabbing a bungee net, it'll take up no room, and has lots of uses!
I used it to hold shopping to the top of my tank bag; my jacket/trouser thermal insides to my pillion seat and to hold my tank bag closed when the zip broke!

Oh and don't bother with loo roll, take wet wipes as they double up as an arse freshener and something to wash with and they store rather small as well...

They've just phoned me to say the Ventura is ready for collection, typical, if they'd have phoned twenty minutes ago I'd still got the bike out...

I'm always amazed how people go touring or to a rally two up on a bike, and get all their stuff on as well. I struggle getting all my stuff and tent on just riding solo.

Good idea.

Maybe I should steal a shopping basket from Tesco and cable tie it onto the front of the bike. Mr. Green

Picked it up and fitted it, ball ache though as on the SV you have to drill the under tray for it to fit, after you've stripped all the plastics off the back end that is, anyway the grab rail's on and staying on, the bag rack will go on as and when needed... Thumbs Up
