Leading from my mpg thread, and the question about using my Coguar...

Has anyone gone 2 up on a 125cc on a regular basis?

Combined weight of me an the missus is around 24 stone (2/3 of that being me... Laughing )

Would it even be worth trying?

Used to take me and the missus on the previous bike on an odd occassion (CG125). We didn't go far each time, only 5 miles or so to the next town. I was probably 13 stone at the time, she'd be... she's never told me Laughing (i'm going to guess 10 or 11 stone).

I'm confident we were technically over the maximum weight limit of the bike (i'm sure it's about 14/15 stone on a CG125), but that's only theoretical in my mind anyway. It didn't break! Very Happy

It was OK (do-able), had to rev it plenty to get moving (as expected), but seemed alright apart from the obvious and expected further drop in performance (remember: that includes braking!). I can't remember the actual figures, but i know for a fact 50mph was fine.

Also took a slightly heavier mate too once, and it went OK (scared the crap out of him at - i think 60mph - actually as he'd never been on a bike before - he rides now of course Thumbs Up).

If you plan to do it regularly though - get a derestricted 2-stroke, or better yet, a bigger bike!

I picked my gf up from work on my NSR once. The suspension wasn't too happy about it as its bouncy enough as it is without adding weight right at the back. Before you say it no my gf isn't fat shes barely anywhere near 10 stone I think its more to do with where the weight was.

The bike was fine going two up still rode fine.

I did a whole summer of 120 mile a day commuting with a mate on the back of my RXS100 in the mid-90s. No bother at all. Well, not as much as you'd expect from two fairly large blokes on one very small bike Laughing

I've done it a few times, mainly out of necessity (of the pillion) but I don't enjoy it. Had the missus on the back as well as a few other people. Can get the up to 40ish mph with someone on the back. I once rescued a rather tall gentleman who had run out of petrol, ran him to the nearest station, which was an uphill incline - I thought the bike was going to kill itself. Weight limit on the YBR is 200kg, which is 31 and a half stone, impressive! Check the manual of your bike to see its limit. Take her round the block and see how you like it. Oh and you do have a full license, not just CBT, because learners can't take pillions. Thumbs Up

Used to buzz all round London two up with mr hellkat on my old XL125, loads of times. Went out to Surrey on it a couple of times. Mental, but do-able Mr. Green

The RXS100 copes fantastically well two up, certainly in terms of engine and handling. It does however overload the already crap brakes. I used to take loads of pillions on my first RXS and did occasional commutes into London with the missus on my second one. Other than the braking problem the only issue was a tendency for the front wheel to come up in 1st with a big bloke on the back.

I doubt that the brakes would be a problem on a more modern steed with disks. In your case I'd be concerned with your passenger ending up in too much wind blast. Looks like the Cougar has a really big step in the seat.

Hi

Friend went touring round Wales quite a few times 2 up on a CG125 (with camping gear, etc).

Regularly ridden 2 stroke 125s with a pillion without any problems. The RS125 has managed mid 90s mph indicated with a pillion on level ground and without trying to hide behind the fairing.

All the best

Keith

My girlfriend used to go on the back of my ybr 125

we were both pretty light. The acceleration wasnt very good but could still get about 60mph out of it, which isnt bad 2 up!

Me and a mate go 2 up occasionally with a combined weight of 27-28 stone.

Acceleration not too bad, deffo tell there is a difference and top speed slightly reduced but nothing epic like 40mph. Still get well above 55mph.

I covered a lot of miles 2-up on the NSR and it handled the challenge fine.

We took it on a long run out to Scarborough and ended up catching a pack of other 125's (slightly older models like the AF1 ridden by blokes). It didn't have any problems keeping up and over taking them.

The only time it really struggled was with two heavy lads up a steep hill... but that was all part the fun Thumbs Up

My Gilera SC125 happily sat at 65mph two up.

That's me and the girlfriend, so a combined weight of about 22 stone.

Although the brakes etc were impaired, and trying to turn an uphill hairpin from a near stop did lead to a fair few small sphincter moments. Laughing.

It was fine though, a tad boring.

Rode from Isle of Wight to Bristol with the girlfriend on the back of this, no problems what so ever. Was actually quite comfortable:

When i was dispatching on a 125, i had a huge medical box on the back and i still managed to take my girlfriend (who is as i would say "Thick" Wink) to work on it. Pretty much with her occupying what was left of the pillion seat and most of my seat, with my nuts basically on top of the fuel cap Razz

So yeah 125's not great 2 up but doable...

I took a few people on the back of my NSR125 when I had it, it was slow going but it worked. The zzr250 was the easiest out of all the bikes I've owned for some reason..
