i want to buy a new supersprox rear sprocket for my zx6r

Not sure if i have to replace the whole lot though. i.e chain, rear sprocket, front sprocket,

Or can i just bolt the new rear one on, and not worry about the old chain wearing the new sprocket out.

You ought to just replace both. They'll probably come in a set anyway. I haven't heard of the rear one wearing out before the front one before but I could be very wrong too.

thanks alexio,
there not worn out, but i like the look of the supersrox,
i dont need to change them yet, but i quite fancy a gold sprocket.
its not a kit either, for the chain and sprocket i like, im looking at 150 squid more or less, so best start saving lol.

Hi

The bits tend to wear together, so putting on a new rear sprocket will tend to shorten its life compared to a full set. However a sprocket is cheap compared to a chain, so as long as the front sprocket and chain are in reasonable condition I wouldn't worry about it.

Front sprockets tend to be made out of far harder material than rear sprockets to compensate for how much more wear they get. However I would expect an alloy rear sprocket to wear out more quickly than a steel. Stock rear sprocket on the Bimota is alloy and lasted about 12k, while I would expect about 50% more than that normally.

All the best

Keith
