well ye old ns125 has been sat in the garden for over a year with no engine... got a new barrel for it now but think its going to cost to much to get her back up and going. needs a new shocker and a set of fork seals again.... cnt find anywhere that does bushes so meh . so thinking rebuild the lump and get it running sell as a spears or repair or get the mighty work horse back running? was a decent bike when it was running put out decent bhp at the wheel and went like stink for a 80's 125

Harsh ecconomics are that the NS is the poor boy's NSR.
Plenty of NSR's about, and plenty of NSR 'projects' for hopefuls to chuck thier cash at in all thier nieve optimism.
On which basis, its HUGELY unlikely that doing ANTHING to the NS will help you claw back penies on it... it is probably worth MOST taken completely to bits and hawked off on e-bay.
THAT is the ecconomic truth.
As a scrub up & keeper... it would have to be for the fun and the sentimental value, becouse in all probability wont be worth the parts you put into it to make it good again. Decent NS prices top out at what, about £600ish?
As an 'unloved' novelty, a 'future classic', done to concourse, it would be a notable rarity that could get attension and rosettes, for same reason its not an ecconomical fix, no one does that to them, so would have interest value for shows and meets... but a lot of money to get it to that standard.
Only you can say whats the best thing to do with it, or whether its worth the time, money or effort, whichever way you go about it.
Personally, I know I'd SAY strip and e-bay bits...... becouse that is what the accountant in me says is the 'logical' and 'sensible' thing to do with it.
But biker heart says 'never say die' and fix the bugger up one way of another.... 'cos I hate the idea of 'killing' a bike!

thing is i paid £400 for it back in 05 and blew the motor rebuilt it new crank etc used it abused it and did almost 16k miles on her then some cunts cut the 2t pipe while parked up caused a top end sieze.

now she is sat in garded.

she was fast for what she was a ns at the end of the day a pre nsr that put just short of 22bhp at the wheel on a dyno with just a ledar carb kit and an exhaust and the atac bolt chopped down. to be fair i could get it back road legal for £50 but it would be as it always was a dog Razz a fast dog. a wolf in sheeps clothing . use to love the idiots on nsr and rs125 that thought they where the shizz then my dog would hold them to 85-90 Very Happy and never have engine problems no matter how hard i rode it Very Happy mate rebuilt his rs twice in the time he owned it i never touched my ns yet his rs wasnt that much faster in the twisties if it was atall. probally get the lump running as i have everything here. brand new genuine piston and gasket set. then drop it back in the frame and ebay it for £150 -200 probally

Hold on, is this the NS125 that was in a right state, paint spills all over it and the like?

'Rat' it, paint it black, fix only what you NEED for it to run, then run it to the ground.

Bullshit.

The NS and NSR are nothing alike.
You might as well say a VW Golf is a poor mans Mini Rolling Eyes

I hardly think half a rear wheel and 2 inch of end can with a bit of weatherproofer counts as 'paint all over' tbh.

I just read that whole thread on Steve's NS. Nearly as good as your thread on that awful Peugeot, you have a talent for buying utter shite and spending time and money making it considerably worse.

The NS is the poor kids NSR in that they are both sporty looking Honda 2 stroke 125s, with similar names. The NSR just happens to be superior in just about every way, the NS being shit from new and worse now. This is part of why no-one restores them, if you're going to restore a 2 stroke 125 the choices are generally RD125s or AR125s, the latter because they're simple and lightweight.

I would just stick the NS on ebay as is with a reserve, see if you get any money for it. If you don't, break it for spares. The more bits you break it down to, the more money you can make.

Bump cos I've only just found Robby's reply.

Out of principle, Karma rate as you like, Robby's wrong.

The NS was made years before the NSR was even thought of, it wasn't a poor mans version at all, and the engine/parts aren't interchangable.

I fully plan on rebuilding the NS, and with people having an attitude like yours it means there's more parts for people like me who do have an ambition at seeing a great classic live on.

As for the Pug, it's like a hack cage fit for a king. It's put up with more abuse than 80% of my mates' modern shitboxes and cost literally 10th of the price, not to mention parts are 10-a-penny.

That sir, is a win. Thumbs Up
