OK, now that I've pledged to get off my arse and get my Hornet back together I have just one question.

I bought a Hornet engine quite awhile ago and it's been in my garage for quite some times. No fluids in or anything. Is there a chance that something somehow may have been damaged?

My friend said he was worried cause it's been standing for awhile (over a year I think Neutral) but I can't think what could destroy the insides...

Ta very much.

It'll be fine.

As a precautionary measure, the day before you start it remove the spark plugs and put a drop of oil in each cylinder.

Also change the oil filter before you fill it with oil.

But it should be absolutely fine.

If it's been stored dry of fluids and out of a bike then the oil wells in the head will probably be empty. What I would do is whip off the cam cover before fitting it in the bike and pour a liberal amount of oil all over the valvetrain. Then I'd fit it in the bike with new oil & filter, pull the plugs and crank it for 20 seconds with the plugs out (but still connected to the plug caps). Re-fit the plugs and start as normal.

I'm sure it will be fine too. But i left my ZX6R for 2 years unused, and not long after i got it back on the road it did start to blow a bit of blue smoke, which i presume was sticking of one or more piston rings. I never did anything about it, and sold the bike soon after. But it was worrying that an 8000mile old never thrashed engine was starting to smoke a bit like that TBH!
