My girlfriend was emailed this.

https://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv345/carl_steveo/taxrefund.jpg

The link it goes to is www.nettiehartsock.com/tmp/hmrc/refundportal.htm

I haven't clicked the link because I have no idea what it is. This can't be for real?

Tax refunds are real but it will come in the post. Usually only happens if you are self employed I think and you pay tax, they check it and make sure it is accurate and you may be reimbursed some if you pay too much. So unlikely you will get £1k though.

No quite often they get tax codings wrong and overcharge, if this happens they just give it you back next pay cheque by reducing the total income tax PAYE payments of your employer.

Cheques in the post were long gone even in 2008, they now bacs it to you instead.

Here in lies the problem.... Despite the internet being full of this type of thing. As soon a MONEY is mentioned common sense goes out of the window.

Just add that there is now another going round asking if you have ever been scammed by stuff like this and that there is a Obana fund avaiable to repay your losses..... Just fill in all your bank details and they will send you the cash Embarassed
Wonder how many fall for that one.....

You should explain to your girlfriend that:

- she is never going to win a lottery that she hasn't entered.
- she is never going to inherit millions of pounds from some Nigerian dude that she's never heard of and doesn't know.

Thumbs Up

Entirely depends on the situation at hand. I got a cheque, this was 2 months back or so. If I was at work they would do it through the PAYE system though. Thumbs Up

I got nearly 2k back before.
I was paying loads of tax for a company vehicle. When I no longer had the vehicle my company never told the tax office and it wasn't till I eventually noticed and told them that it was put right.
The money was just added to my monthly pay.

Was a bumper pay packet that month Thumbs Up
