hey guys

im having trouble with my gixxer again Sad
was walking the bike into the yard when i noticed a "knocking" sound coming from the back of the bike.......we got the bike on a paddock stand and turned the wheel and once again could hear a really audiable knock, however its not a consistent knocking.....only every now and then. We decided it was possibly something to do with the chain or rear bearing, so cleaned the chain, lubricated but the same noise happened, so then we got the back wheel off and checked the bearing and that appeared to be in good condition.....so back to observations of wheel spinning and chains and we noticed that just before the knock the chain is being pulled in tighter at the engine end of the chain and the back wheel slows and starts to stop before carrying on.........please can you help me have an idea of what is happening?? is it a sprocket thing?? chain thing?? chain guidance?? (chain doesnt look to have any kinks) or am i just going to have to bite the bullet and take it into a garage Sad

thanks for any advice or ideas

Nic x

How often does it do it? once every turn of the wheel once every complete rotation of the chain or neither.

Sounds like a tight spot on the chain. ie a few links locked together.

Slacken the rear end off and check the chain by hand looking for tight links.

Could also be crush rubbers, but i doub't it as that would be far more often.

its not a knock every turn of the wheel but i need to check if its the same every time the chain does a rotation as i recall it didnt appear to be but i need to double check on that....

ill give that a go and see what comes up- i swear my bike always decides to break when the torrential downpours start, its revenge for leaving it outside!!! Sad

I agree with the above, sounds like a tight section in the chain through poor maintenance.

Although my bike did make a similar noise when my cush drive bearing went. To check that, wheel off, remove the cush drive and it should be just inside the cush drive. My bearing had completely collapsed causing one of the sprocket bolts to hit the swingarm sometimes.
