I've had my current camera (Vivitar ViviCam 4000) for a few years now, and whilst it's reasonably ok for 'snaps', it really struggles to do much else and i can't get the results i want from it (especially when taking landscape or wildlife pics).

So, i'm thinking of moving up a bit, and would like a bit more flexibility, but don't want to spend a fortune and don't really 'need' an SLR.

I've been looking at cameras like (for example) the Finepix s1500 which hopefully will give me the better functionality and flexibility to indulge my 'artistic side', but still allow me to do simple 'point-and-shoot' everyday snaps. (i'd also like to take video at a reasonable quality, mine is absolutely shite for that)

Is it the case with these cameras that they lose the ease-of-use and portability of my compact camera but don't give vastly better control and results, or do the BCF camera-buffs think a camera of that style would be a good purchase??

I'm amazed there's no-one on BCF with experience/opinion of the subject.....

I like bridge cameras. I have one and it works fine for me. Gives enough control over settings to take some decent pictures (but a much longer shutter speed would be nice for pictures of the night sky).

Bit bulkier than a compact camera, but I think it's worth it.
