Its like doing a pushbike, just bigger!! Thumbs Up

After getting a nail in my tyre, I got a proper motorcycle puncture repair kit.

For those that haven't used one, it is real easy - here are somehow to pics! Thumbs Up

I guess some people (me included) take things like that for granted. I learnt patching a tyre from my Dad and at Scouts. Along with a lot of things which when thinking about it, I was quite privileged in my upbringing.

Some people will find it useful I am sure, although there aren't that many bikes with tubed tyres... (he says, waiting to get corrected)

I think it's more aimed at us offroaders who have tubed tyres for which punctures aren't that uncommon.

I think the best option might be to carry a spare tube for a quick byway-side change, then repair the tyre at home.

There are lots of bikes with tubes, i.e. pretty much anything with spoked wheels (there are of course exceptions either way), so offroad bikes and things like CG125s, C90s etc.

Bearing in mind the numbers of C90s and CG125s out there (worldwide) I reckon tubed tyres are actually the most common!! Wink

To be honest, the hard work is in the getting the tyre off and on the rim ... and you have to do that if you just did a tube swap ... so putting the patch on (and letting it dry) is only adding what 10mins to the task? ... and you might be wanting a 10 min rest after all that tyre-levering to get the tyre off before putting it back on again!! Laughing

I bought a combination tyre lever/patch holder from Halfords for £2.99, and whilst the lever is the most useless tool for removing tyres known to man, I rate the self adhesive patches highly. You can buy those separately, 8 for £2.49, so cheap enough to keep a few with the bike.

That is for pushbikes though right? That leaver spoon thing should be ok on a pushbike, but on a m-bike it isn't gonna last 0.0005s Laughing

It is, but the lever spoon thing is pants for even bicycles. My point is that the self adhesive patches are fab.

Brings back horrible memories of my pushbike days in the pissing rain, freezing cold, 5 miles from home, barely able to feel my fingers. The YBR uses tubed tyres on alloy wheels for some weird, Satan-inspired reason. Evil or Very Mad

Or it indicates that I am trying to help/inform others .... Confused

Many people (including yourself) would be predisposed to getting someone else to replace a tube for them over having a go at repairing it ...

Some people might not even be aware/SURE you can get specialist motorcycle tube repair kits (to be honest, that included me until about a day ago - I just presumed you could/might, I had never bought one!).

This thread demonstrates that it is no more tricky to do the repair ITSELF than it is on a pushbike (which most people would have done at some point or another) ... so why not try it on their bike??

It also shows that with one of these kits, a set of tyre leavers (and tools to remove the wheel) one can repair a number of punctures roadside if they needed too, so they might consider tooling up with the aforementioned (a repair kit is much smaller and lighter than a spare tube)!! Thumbs Up

Sadly I have to confess, getting the tyre off is a right get mind you, so that might put a few potential home-repair bods off!!! Embarassed
