Having a lot of trouble at home, so am on the verge of moving out.

I won't be able to run the car if i bugger off so i'm going to buy a bike, but i'm STILL waiting on the insurance payout. So i might as well sell the car.

But i have no idea what it's worth.

It's a great wee car, just under 50k miles. VW polo, 1.4 CL 1998.

Only a couple problems, rusty wheels as you can see, and that big dent in the rear passenger side, but that's not as big anymore becuase my mate managed to pull it out (for the most part).

You can't see it in the pictures but theres patches on the bonnet and the roof where the lacqer is peeling off, and the drivers side cental locking barrel doesn't turn... but i'll be looking at fixing that so that shouldn't be a problemo.

Any ideas on what it's worth?

Edit: MOT'd for a year and taxed till the end of june.

Cheers

Used car prices are comparitively high at the moment, I've seen some real shit getting 500 quid, so I would expect north of that. Yuo do have a few things going for it - tis a VW with an engine under 1550cc.

Whatever ebay says. It seems that anything with a long MOT and tax is £500, but I wouldn't expect loads more than that - £700 maybe, if you fix the lock and minimise the dent. Give it a really good clean and take good pictures.

I wouldn't pay much for it, it's got great big blobs of black paint over the front and rear.

It's a VW engine, £125 tax-bracket and under 50k, I'd say well north of £500. Thumbs Up

If I can get the 250 running again (left out over winter) I'll give you that plus £150? I'll even ride it down to you. Don't hold your breath though I am shite at fixing things. Laughing

I can't really tell from the pictures, but at the bottom of that big dent has it split the paint? If so, might wanna get that looked at as I wouldn't want to be it like that with the prospect of rust spreading beneath the paintwork.

I'd say £500. Used car prices have been highly inflated because of the scrappage scheme. Smile

Find a good parking spot, rip out the backseat, insert a mattress and a mini fridge and camping stove...hey presto, new digs and you keep your car!!! Bonus. Cool

I almost bought an '04 Suzuki Alto a couple of weeks ago which went for £940, taxed & tested. I'd probably pay no more than £300 for yours.

Wasn't perfect, but similar (better condition) ones were selling for £2kish

Judge for yourself, the only reason I didn't buy it was insurance for my 17 yr old daughter:

With no dents or knocks, tax and mot and with around 100.000 miles they still sell for around a grand...

See them advertised all the while in Autotrader and a local free ads paper here ( Bargain Pages ) for that money...

You'll spend another £940 keeping that on the road over the next year. My mum had one and the body starts rusting from the inside out. The roll bars were fooked after only 30,000 miles, suspensions arms were already going.

My mum spent £2500 on an '03 model in 2007 and spent £1500+ keeping it on the road. They are cheap for a reason.

I didn't buy it, but I understand the principle of what you're saying. I doubt that I would've been paying anything like what your mum did for any repairs though, a large part of her bill would have been labour Wink

For the Polo, my sister phoned around a few dealers for a P/X & it had around 115,000k on the clocks with a few scrapes/dents & they offered £300 so i should think you'd get around £500+ although i'd put it on Pistonheads if you're in no rush.

Also can that dent be pushed out a bit form the inside?

Aweosme, cheers Thumbs Up

When i took it in for it's MOT, my mate pulled the dent out with a sucker... it's not as bad now. It can't be pushed out though. There is another skin underneath.
