Ok, called into my local bike shop today to enquire about how much it's gonna cost to do my full test. I need to re-do my CBT which is the standard set fee of £85.

From there I have two options, I can pay £375 for a 3 day course including the test at the end of the 3rd day, or I can take lessons at £30 an hour, and then fund the test fee myself. Both prices include full bike hire and petrol, blah blah blah. Which do you reckon it's best to do? Basically if I will need less than 10 hours training I might as well pay by the hour, but I don't have a clue on how much they look for or whatever on the test, so some of you who've passed recently(ish) and those in the know, can you give me a rough idea of how many hours you think I'll need, and advise me on what package to take up...

By the way, I've already done my theory test so that isn't a problem.

Cheers

Well, I'd be tempted to get them to take you on a exmined ride, so that they can give you an idea of how long they think it will take. I'd be tempted myself to do about 3 hours training with the test after if. You can ride, and have riden for 2 years so I can't see you having that many problems other than bad habits which just will need kicking.

Stuff like life savers everywhere. And literally everywhere, anywhere where you change direction indicate, check mirrors, life saver then move. The U turn shouldn't be a problem on a hire 125, and the emergency stop just dont skid but do use both brakes. Dont speed, dont follow the car too close, if you are waiting to turn out, and there is a sensible sized gap, take it. Don't worry about the instructor and if they can't pull out then as well... that's a bonus cos it wastes time Smile

Generally, ride safely and sensibly. Smile

You haven't properly ridden for quite a while, have you Scoob? I reckon that you should make a decision based upon how you feel about your abilities after the CBT. The instructors should also give their opinions on whether you have any bad habits etc.

Don't pay for stuff that you don't need, but at the same time, don't over-estimate your (test standard) abilities.

Cheers lads, I think I will see how the CBT goes and see what the guy says. If I am still not sure maybe they can sort out some sort of lesson where we go for a general ride and he see's how I ride and stuff to determine how many hours he thinks I am roughly going to need. My mate did a 5 day course last year and he says the last 2-3 days were a waste of time which is why I am umming and arring about it, he says the most difficult thing was getting the damn SR125 into gear, you had to quite literally boot it through the box.

The instructor when I did mine was on a FireBlade Smile

And lossing them is a bad idea... doing wheelies, stoppies, burnouts and kneedown is a much better idea (although they might not give you a CBT at the end Confused )

I am re-doing my CBT with the same place I took it with the first time. When I took it first time round the instructor was on a Pan European, and we basically went dead slow cos we were with some clown who couldn't even use gears. I asked who's the CB500 was outside the shop and the woman told me it belonged to the instructor, talk about a downgrade Very Happy

hi

How are you with gears???

If you are ok with them, then i'd just do the full test with out any training (exept CBT obveously) thats what i did. Failed the first time but passed second Very Happy and saved quite alot of money. The instructors tell you what you need to know at the end anyway.

Follow the tips and info on this forum and you'll most likely pass.

Now you see, I would just do that, but the thing is I would need a bike to do it on, insurance, etc, which I don't have. I can hardly just go to a bikeshop and ask to borrow their SR125 either, they would think I was a right twat going for the test with no training., and probably wouldn't lend it me anyway.

Most training school's will be happy to rent you a bike by the hour, as that'll be all you need.

And danielw2599 there is more to it than changing gears smoothly, in fact that is probably one of the easiest bits, which you should be alright with after a CBT alone
