starting again

Hi folks
some of you may have already read my first post which I put in the wrong forum..
I am looking for advice on a bike and equipment for a 13yr old total novice who wants basically to ride around farm fields.
He is 5'3'' tall.(thank you for replies so far)

Have seen a bike which is 110cc and is a 'DNA Shift'?? which is just within our price range and is second hand. It looks like the type of bike my pals used to ride on the sand dunes with high mudguards and knobbly wheels. (please excuse the ignorance but thats why Im asking you people who do know more about them!)

Any questions I should be asking or any warning signs I should be looking for on this bike?
Please be frank with explanations of what I should be looking for as Im not mechanically minded but want to get something my son can have fun on and learn to look after.
