50cc or 125cc?

Im coming up 16 soon and i'm not sure weather to get 50cc moped or save and wait untill im 17 and get a nice 125cc motorbike? Any advise will be aprisiated thanks.

Get a 2nd Hand ped when your 16, then sell when your 17 and get a 125.

While I completely agree with the two above me, also bear in mind that you might make a loss on selling your 50cc ped / bike after a year and so the other option is to simply save for a year, which will allow you to either get an incredibly 125 (well, you know, as good as 125's get) or even get your licence immediately, depending on how much you saved.

But obviously you want to get on the road ASAP, so go for a geared 50cc bike. If it were me, it would be a little supermoto type thing and I would have a lot of fun with it

Well, if you're 15 now, then a year is a very long time to wait until you can get a 125. As above, see if you can get yourself a nice geared 50cc motorcycle and start accumulating experience and roadsense at the earliest opportunity.

If you get a geared 50cc, why even go for a 125cc? Learn everything on the 50cc then go straight in for your test when you are 17 on the training school's bike.

I can highly reccomend a Derbi GPR50R if your after sports bike style or Derbi Senda if you prefer offroad.

Yes but if i got the gpr50 then wouldn't it need to be restricted to 30mph as i will only be 16?

The only geared restricted 50 I ever came across that wouldnt do over 31mph was the MT50. Everything else would do high 30s low 40s on the flat. This was in 1993 though.....

I went the 50cc, 90cc, 125cc, 400cc, 650cc route. I rarely lost money on any sale. But then, I've never had brand new.
