Tom tom rider 2.. any good?

Found a tom tom rider 2 with western europe maps and ram mounts etc for £150.. I'm tempted, I was after a garmin gpsmaps 60csx though but didn't want to spend out on one at the min. Even the tom tom is a bit more than I was planning to spend to be honest.

So, what's it like? does it do the trail maps like some others do?? is £150 a good price etc....

I went for the Garmin 660 - it is similar to the tom tom I think; forget the reasons but I did my research and decided the Garmin was better. However it did cost me £400, but that was getting on for a year ago and new.

Not sure if you can get the garmin to show dirt maps, but you can get it to follow an off-road route ok.
I've had a 60Cs in the past and while it was ok, I much prefer the 660 as a holistic solution.

all of them... I bought a tom tom 720go with Europe maps and now I'm just using the latest UK maps cause I don't need the rest.
same story for speed cameras. you can even change you OS if you fiddle around. so you may buy a tom tom 720 e use it like a 930...
150 for a tom tom rider 2 it's a very good price I'd say. Make sure it's 2 cause i've heard the first is shite.
I paid 125 for mine (Mine was the 720goT version but fuckin hell on a bike the last thing you worry about is traffic) and had to buy the waterproof mount for another 30 https://www.buybits.com/product/sku_5988.aspx.
yours should be waterproof in the first place.
If you wanna save cash you can always buy the most simple tom tom for cars( as I said don't worry about the maps you can update them all the times) . buy a waterproof mount and go on with it. i use earphone for listen to the instructions. very easy. I actually have inserted the earphone inside an earplug.

So.. for that price go for it. if you wanna save money get a cheaper tom tom for cars.

I love my tom tom. it takes wherever i want to, after a long day riding I don't have to fuck around trying to find my way home and I can plan my trips or see where I've been...

PS: Make sure they have and SD card cause It will help u upgrade it whenever u'll need to.

Opeth, he says it is a rider 2.. the pic says rider 2 as well.

It comes with car charger, bike charge lead, ram mount, soft case, scala bluetooth mic/headphone etc - £150 .. seems in good condition too.

It already comes with the western european maps so only thing I'd want to add is the speed cameras.. and if possible the gps maps for trail riding, like openstreetmap stuff.

Good to know about that waterproof cover but by time i buy a basic tom tom + that cover it'll work out near enough the same if you factor in shipping costs etc.

Well worth it, cheap at that price. I have used mine round Europe for 2 week holidays 3 times now, good. accurate and reliable.
You can get a car mount with a speaker built in to give instructions.
The only wael point is the bike holder, tries to self destruct due to vibration. Apsrt from that I would recomend it.

As I already have a TomTom for the car, I bought a Ram mount for it, they cost about £30. Then I just rigged a cig lighter socket under the seat(via a relay), plugged a USB charger in to it and a long usb cable to the tomtom.

It works fine, no problems at all, I don't use bluetooth, but I can hear it at low speeds, plus the tom tom, shows you the next turn ahead in the bottom left hand corner, so not an issue really.

Only thing its not waterproof, but a freezer bag fixes that.

I use a nuvi200 with waterproof case. £60 new with full 2010 european maps

I use one of those cheap reconditioned garmin units that got posted up here a while back - they're an exceptional deal when they turn up on eBay. Not done anything to make it waterproof but had no trouble in torrential rain so far. One day I'm sure it'll fail, but until it does it is one of my best spent £30s.
