Right. Gots me a new job so I can now start saving up money to fix the Hornet once and for all.

Only problem is the car that I'm using to commute. It is a family motablity car and chugs petrol and I have to pay to park. It costs me 10 quid to get to Oxford and back with an "apparent" 40mpg. On the Hornet, ragging it I could do that twice in 10 quid and then some.

Been talking to my mother and the offer has been put to get a cheap 125, roughly 200 or so, get cheap as chips insurance and then commute on that again. Which would be fucking awesome.


Except I can't seem to find any 125 within 100 miles from me (autotrader) that isn't Chinese or asking for over a grand.

Cheapest CG on autotrader is 550.


So, is it worth me sticking to getting a 125 or would I actually be able to get a bigger bike for not much more money? Or same?

Why not look at 4T 250s, like an old CB250 (Not the superdream!) or whatever? I do remember someone selling a good condition K-reg for like £300-£400 or something, which wasn't too bad.

I would suggest CG125 is just too pants (as i used one for a 9 miles each way commute and it just became too irritating over time).

as much as i hate to say it, isnt there any public transport that could get you to work?

it might save some money that could be put towards repairing the hornet..

and how much are we talking about to get the hornet up and going again?

ive had a look on biketrader for you too, found the CG for £550.. also found a yamaha rs200 for £400 but needs a bit of work and MOT.. im assuming you just want to jump on and ride.

And no public transport to speak off. There's 2 buses throughout the dya. The latest to get home is 5PM.

I do split shifts from 12-14 and then 6-12.

So it's either my own transport or taxi. Which is 10 quid each way.


In my village, if you don't have your own transport you'll end up sleeping with your sister.

Bare minimum fr the Hornet? I'd say at least 550 or so. Undertrya, brake light, headlight, sidepanels, bars, grips, tax, mot.



I need my own transport otherwise I can't get a job. Basically. Or keep my current job.


I really don't care what bike it is as long as it isn't a 2 stroke, a cruiser, or Chinese.

i know it doesnt help a hell of a lot, but i have some grips you can have (in great condition) that i had on mine bought from Hein Gericke just before i put on my renthal grips...

i also have some bars but they are slightly bent :/ dunno if you fancy trying to bend that back again?

And bars I can get cheap. It's the undertray, tail light, headlight that costs money. Hell I think Hornets look fugly without a bellypan but I'd ride without one right now.

Any bike will do.

As long as it has 5 gear or 6, at least a 125, has mot (I can tax) and starts and runs fine and has working headlight and tail/brake light. All I ask.

Can be a 125 or 1250. Though I doubt I'll find a dirt cheap 1250

Look in your local free-ads or on supermarket notice boards, sometimes a bargain to be had. I'd be looking for a CG or similar.

Theres always the parallel twin lot - CB500/ER5/GS500.
Maybe some of the older big thumpers might do the job - XTs and the like.

I've got a J reg matt blacked gt550 with 11 months test and everything working (except a blowing exhaust) that I'd let go for a minimal sum of 250 squids. Brand new tyres, newish brake discs. Has got 80k, but it'll go forever.


Anyway, you can pick up little runarounds that'll have niggly faults for <400 squids easily, I bought a 250 nighthawk not long back for 250 quid with 6 months t+t, I bought my gt for 320 quid and spent 35 on a new battery, and it starts first time every time in all weathers.

im in the same boat, alot of the dealers ive been speaking to regarding 2-300 quids worth of 125 cg's yammys etc ay that the prices for 125 have shot up recently and for a working 125 geared bike thats not chinese or even is with an m.o.t. is worth 595... smae story everywhere. im really struggling.
