So the end is in sight, the NSR will be back on the road soon but i did something rediculously stupid today!

Put new brushes in the starter (old ones were non existant), threw that back in, wouldnt start happily so, bumped it (started easily) and ran it for a minute then stopped it and the starter started it but wouldnt start it after that (think the battery isnt happy)...

Anywho, after all this i realised about 20 minutes later that the engine oil had been drained but not replaced (plenty of 2t oil though).

Sooooo, who recons maybe 70 seconds of running with litterally no oil (left it for ages to drain) has done damage?

Amazed i did this, am usually on the ball but after fannying about with chains/sprockets and bits all day i jst wanted to see if it worked and call it a day...

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Best regards

Swish,
Will be filling her up (950ml) and taking her out tomorow Very Happy

Quick question, with brand spanking new (did, o/x el'spectacular) chain and sprokets, should i modify my riding atall? Take it easy for a while maybe? Hoping this will last a while!

I once rode into town and back with no gearbox oil (15 miles). I wondered why I was having trouble getting through the gears...and then I suddenly remembered I'd drained the oil and not refilled it because I'd been distracted by a phone call. Put the oil in and the bike just carried on like nothing had happened Laughing

If it'd been a 4 stroke you'd have had a wrecked engine ... there's more than likely been enough oil left coating gearbox etc to prevent any damage ... lucky Thumbs Up

i would be sensible for the first 50-60 miles to let the chain and sprocket wear in then pull the throttle right back

A chain and sprocket has no "wear in". If anything, they will work best fresh from the box. It's all down hill from there, as they wear.

EDIT: In hindsight, I feel it was a bit harsh giving you some negative karma just because I disagreed, so I've given you some good karma elsewhere to balance it out.

I agree that there's no wear in period as such, but the 5 or so chains I've been through tend to go slack very quickly when first used, despite being correctly tesioned up when fitted. so that may be something to keep an eye on

Yeah, i understand that now but having come from a 4t crosser with gasket problems i wanted to ask jst to be sure...

In hindsight the revs were low, it wouldnt have even warmed up much really but having had it appart for the past week and jst getting it together, i didnt like the idea of having to take it appart again so thought i'd ask lol.

best regards
