Hi guys,

Just doing the general maintainence after a hard winter. Got rid of the surface rust from the drive chain with a wire brush and it looks fine but there are one or two seized links that wont move iv attacked them with WD40 and two pairs of large swan neck grips but they wont move. I dont want to cut the chain off and replace it as it is fine apart from the couple of sticky links. Any tips to get them moving again?

Dan.

If its an O-Ring chain it can be tricky as the o-rings keep new lube OUT so they can be counterproductive.

An old trick is to put the chain in a saucepan with some oil or grease and gently heat it on the stove. This helps the oil penetrate the links.

Dont be tempted to remove an o-ring to try and get oil into the chain.

Couldnt find linklyfe but plutoline does an equivelent product:

wd-40 will just remove all the oil and grease on the chain. not a great product to use on chains.
soaking it oil is your best bet.

half petrol half engine oil.

Petrol dilutes oil, helps it penetrate the chain then evaporates off leaving oil behind.

in theory

Paraffin. Won't destroy any type of chain.
It has many uses
Fuels
Paints, Pigments, Dyes and Inks
In leather industry for "pull up finish"
Medicine (Laxative)
Biomedical science (evaporation control during PCR)
Culinary
Fire breathing and fire juggling
Used in toiletries and cosmetics as a moisturiser or emollient.
and cleaning chains.
