Sometimes when i try to start my bike it just wont start with the electric or kick start. The starter motor is spinning and the engine does occasionally fire (sounds like it does) but then it just stops. I braught a new spark plug today and i still have the same problem. When the bike eventually starts it runs fine. The other problem is at traffic lights or any other places where i have to stop for a bit of time the bike cuts out. When it does cut out i have the problem of it not starting again. There is nothing wrong with the idle as last week before the starting problem i adjusted it to how it should be.

Is there any crap in your fuel tank? Does it happen at all temperatures? Does it happen with a full tank or an empty one? Does it start eventually or do you have to wait for a period of time, say half an hour for it to work?

I dont think there is any crap in my tank. The problem happens when i have different amounts of fuel. Yesterday i had just under half a tank and it happend and the day before that i had a full tank and had the same problem. If i keep kicking it it will eventually start after a full 15 mins ( no exaggeration). Before i got it started and then turned it off. I tried starting it half an hour later and it started first time. I have tried putting the old spark plug back in and i get the same problem. Ive also tried putting my old restricted cdi unit in and it still doesnt start properly.

Does it start when warm? and wht is the bike? I assume it's a moped because of the kickstart? Checked your HT leads? And is there any way you might have got water into the tank?

I know a 'qualified' VM who spent 3 days stripping and checking everything on a SYM jet 50 that wouldn't start. It turned out to be an incorrectly adjusted spark plug gap apparently. He also said they have a weak coil too. May be worth checking?

It could be the spark gap. At the moment the bike seems to be working fine. Ive swapped the exhaust back to the standard one as the arrow one cracked (for the third time Sad) and now i dont seem to have the problem at all Thinking.

Hi. I got the same problem with my moped. Its a 50cc Piaggio zip 2007 and since yesterday it wont start. Well it did start today after we played with the spark plugs, takin carburetor out checkin if its clean, and setting different gaps on the plug. It does start after couple of tries but if u let go of the throttle it just dies. If any1 knows what could be the problem please post.

Thx

hello i own an aprillia rx 50 since febuary 2009 and havent had any problems up untill now... the bike has been well looked after and because i am a girl rider it has been riden well Very Happy .
my bike was starting fine first time every time untill i had a small accident, the bike was ridden that night fine, however i needed to change my exhaust due to my leo vince crumbling Mad . As i fitted my new big one racing exhaust on to my bike, the bike never started again. As i kick the bike over there is no spark. i have tried changing the spark plug but it still doesnt work. the bike will start every now and then but will stop after ridden a few feet!!! After taking the generater cap off i noticed water inside??? The bike has been standing for 3 weeks now drying out, however the bike still is reluctent to start, i have been advised of testing the generator and/or coil but am unaware of the voltage etc that this bike needs to be?? Any other ideas ???
Thanks kerry :0) Very Happy

So the exhaust might be causing a restriction, any thing else thats not standard?
That is the thing, if you only tell us what its doing and not what led up to it not working and what you have fitted before it started to play up how can we answer your fucking question correctly?
