I've got my forks all sorted out. However it seems when sanding rust off my RXS downpipe I managed to make a little hole which is now blowing and as a result the bike feels a little down on power. The hole is only about 2mm diameter. I've hopefully sealed it with some stuff called "Dum Dum" paste that I got from my grandad, as I need to ride it 100 miles to southampton tomorrow Confused

If this old paste stuff doesn't work, will riding it with the little hole cause engine damage? And what can I seal it with permanently(ish)?

Don't have any exhaust putty at the moment. Although I can buy some when I get back to southampton. The problem is the 100 mile journey...

edit: Apparently the dum dum stuff doesn't set, it's kind of sealing gunge. So I started the bike in the garage and lit a match. No blow! Hardly a guarantee that it'll stay that way for any length of time though. Will go for a quick run in an hour or so and see if the power is back.

I've had a hole in my exhaust for years. Gun Gum and a Jubilee clip have kept it sealed and it's been through about half a dozen MOTs like that. There's a nice RXS pipe on ebay at present, keeping an eye on that.

Make sure you take your Dum Dum with you - it's probable the hole will blow out without something to keep the gunk in place.

Regarding possible damage, I once did over 300 miles with my pipe blowing very loudly and it survived (unlike my eardrums). However, that was before the BCF curse of the RXS struck Shocked

No, Gun Gum/other hardening exhaust putty and a hose clip to hold it in place is the better options, IMHO. I've used bandages in the past without much success.

Oh, now it's showing a flexi wrap thing, not a bandage. Web's gone mad this evening Laughing Would still favour the simpler Gun Gum/clip option.

Yeah I meant the flexi-wrap thing. How long does gun gum take to set? Can't seem to find that info online. So do you have a bit of drinks tin or just the gun gum and clip?

Cheers

If you put Gun Gum on a hot pipe, it hardens quickly (matter of minutes). My hole is only quite small, so I get away with just a Jubilee clip moderately tightened over a small amount of GG to hold it in place.

I've used bits of drinks can or proper aluminium tape on bigger holes in the past. It works well with Gun Gum and hose clips but is only really necessary if you have quite a sizeable hole or crack.
