97 Katana gear issues

my bike has a tendency to change gears on its own. it starts out when im warming it up. i was just warming it up and standing on the porch putting my gear on and i heard my bike die. when i walked up to it the nuetral indicator light was not on. (kick stand safety) so now when i warm it up i sit there and watch it and every so often the light goes off and the bike dies.

then once i get riding something that i assume is related starts to happen. no matter what gear im shifting into it every so often it will go between gears and it will tipically clunk when i do get it into gear, or rarly i will get bad gear clash.

possibly related also. alot of the time when downshifting i can push down on the shifter and not feal a gear change after a couple pushes i feal it click and it downshifts.

ive been told things like clutch adjustment, shifter adjustment, or faults in the trans.
