A quick one,

Mechanic recommended trying some light gear oil, to help me with my clutch dragging issues.

Simply put, I don't have a side stand or a paddock, can I drain the gear oil while it's leant on the side stand?

Thanks!

Bike?

Should think so, The hornet drains on the side stand.

If not drain it on the stand and when its stopped, sit on it and keep it upright to see if more comes out...........

Thumbs Up

It's a Generic Trigger SM50 - some chinese geared 50.

Great, thanks for your help! Just need to go grab some oil now. Can I ride it again straight after?

Yes, but unsure on what or if you need to run it in.

I just rode mine like normal.

Is it the 2 or 4 stroke version of that bike?
If its the 2, just change it and ride around anyway.
If its 4, i'd let it warm up and flow around for 30-45 secs and then ride careful till its warm.

Great thanks for your help, I'll warm the engine up by riding to get the oil then do it when I get back. I'm a bit confused though, by the level. Mechanic said unscrew it, when it begins to dribble there is enough, but the user guide says t's a sight and max min, but the userguide is poorly written English. I'll go have a triple check of the bike before I do it.

It's the 2stroke. Great thanks for the help! Fingers crossed all should be easy.

my bike has an oil level screw, all others have had a sight.

best way...check around the oil filler cap for a screw that says "oil" or "OIL LEVEL"

You would unscrew that and when the oil has stopped flying out, its sorted.
Keep the bike as upright and on as flat a road as possible

Did it today, used some lite gear oil.

Seems to have worked it's magic, gearbox is muchhh smoother and isn't dragging - can tap into neutral while the engine is running now.

Much easier than I expected. The sight was an oil level screw I think, I filled it up until the oil began to dribble out of there. Took a good lot of gear oil too.
