Im new here, well new to the whole biking thingy, so new in fact i havent even really started yet, although i figure the best thing to do when starting something is go onto a forum and start asking questions...so i guess i have actually started biking in essence. Congratulations to me... Aaanyway, like i was saying, i am new here (hello everyone ). Im at the stage of wanting to get biking, but the parents hate the idea, well, parent and strangely its the one time biker dad.
My point is, earlier on we were having a rather one sided discussion about me learning to ride...haha when i started talking to him he was all for the idea (he thought i was talking about driving)... he was pointing out the fact that roads were safer back in 'the day' and that now every tom dick and harry can drive its much safer surrounded by a car than a slice of metal between your legs that has less power than a cat let alone a horse. This got me thinking, he was saying something about 250cc bikes being learner legal, i presume this is about 1970 time.... where the hell did that go to? Like i have said, im new and never have even sat on a bike let alone ridden one, but it makes more sense to me that a learner be given a more powerful bike, such as a 250 so they can get out of the way of idiots in cars before something nasty happens. I cant imagine a 250 having too much kick for a new guy especially after a CBT at least. It sounds like this is the main reason dad doesnt want me starting. Im 18 nearly 19 by the way. And dont drive either.
Chances are hes thinking it over now and in a few days the subject will come up and all will be ok.
I was just wondering what you experienced lot thought about the engine size limit for a learner. |

125cc limit is a good thing IMO. You can still reach 60mph which is plenty fast for a beginner, but it takes you longer to reach which gives you more thinking time.
I love my 125 and am quite reluctant to sell her. It's nice being able to throw the bike around so easily compared to my recently aquired SV.
Just go for it mate, you never know you may not even like bikes after you do the CBT, and if you do like it then you might start your old man's biking spark off again. Good times then.
Welcome to bcf anyhow and enjoy... ____________________ Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. |
