Just wondered how often do you normally replace them? Nothing in the manual gives an indication of when they need replacement. But I need to do valve clearances on my B1H as 10 out of 16 are too tight and wondered whether I ought to replace the chain whilst I'm at it?

The bike was running sweet but if the chain is due within the next few thousand miles I may as well do it with the clearances at the same time. I'm planning on replacing the tensioner whilst I'm at it though.

Ta,
Jack

Depends on the bike. If you have the manual, there will be information on checking the camchain for the correct amount of play.

In my experience, most need inspection at the 40k mark. They can last a long time, but again it depends on the engine in question.

The bike is a ZX6R B1H 2004

Looked in the manual again and it says nothing about the cam chain other than how to replace it. Gives no way of testing it or a mileage at which you should inspect or replace it.

Hhhhmmmm.....
