I need to change my bike to a Sports Tourer to match my type of riding. Long trips out at weekend and holidays followed by a commute to work 3 days a week....which one of these would you choose. They both ride well and I both like them the same, any more comments to add?

2008 Honda VFR 3,200 miles I've seen for £6600
2008 Triumph Sprint ST 5,000 miles I've seen from £6600

Tough choice.

Both excellent bikes, and if you get on with the VTEC, not much to call between them.

I'd probably base my decision on condition, accessories, service history, and how much discount I could haggle

I would rather have an older Sprint, They look better and I believe are slightly quicker.

Ride both see which you prefer, I would go Triumph because I think the other Triumphs I've ridden, Never ridden a 1050 but the 955 Triple is a brilliant engine.

I got mine last year. I'd wanted one for a long long time and I love it. Mine is on a 55 plate and only had 7k miles on it so was a fair bit cheaper than £6600.

When I got it, as you can see it came with the panniers ( now included when new ) and a Givi box, gel seat, sports exhaust, heated grips, tail tidy etc... I was very pleased with the deal I got.

+1 for the 1050 lump, I've just bought an 05 speed triple. Wicked motor.

I've got a sprint 1050 and love it . . . looks and handles great.

Luggage and lights are pretty crap, but you can't have anything.

My dad used to have a VFR and said the servicing costs were very high. He also said though that once you'd ridden it you wouldn' t want to ride anything else because it was so comfortable, capable etc.

If you can find one local to you, have a go on an RST Futura before you buy either of those. Quirky and certainly not without it's own faults, but they are supremely comfortable and are better for pillions than either the VFR or Sprint ST. Proper Marmite bikes but you can get a nice tidy one for almost half of what you're looking to spend there Thumbs Up

I don't know what more recent Triumphs are like, but the 885/900 generation have some pretty wacky engineering going on - small things like having to drain the oil to change the front sprocket, or there being barely enough room for carbs and airbox, but having to take the carbs out to get at the airbox. Not bad things, just somewhat poorly engineered if you're wanting to do anything at home (it was almost like Triumph did this on purpose to give their dealers more workshop time!), and again I can't speak for the newer ones.

Having said that, I've heard the VTEC VFRs are a bit of a git to work on too...

I can definitely recommend the Sprint 1050. I've had mine a couple of years and love it. It does everything you could possibly want from a sports tourer and more. And it's a Triumph. So, for me, possibly the ideal bike. Unfortunately, baby circumstances, and general inability to find time to use it, mean that I'm selling it!

So why not check out:

Extremely good value I reckon, but I am completely biased Cool

Cheers

Well if we're whoring our STs on ebay...

It's red. Red is better. Razz

Wow, that's even more extras than mine. I'm impressed.

Although blue is, of course, best, since it makes the bike undetectable to speed cameras. Cool

Fair.

But the red one is so fast that even though the speed camera sees it, it can't trigger quickly enough. Mr. Green

Dark boring blue is the colour of unmarked police bikes...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
