Well I decided to tax the ZX6R last night as I had the renewal a couple of days and thought, "Get it done before you lose the renewal notice". So cue me getting my laptop and going through the process of entering the details and everything only to be told I have no valid MOT on the bike.

So this means it must have run out just after I bought the bike but stupid me never checked. However, I could have sworn that before I bought the bike they said that they were going to MOT when they serviced it. Thing is they haven't stamped the service booklet so I'm not even sure they will have serviced it or done the other work they said they would...although the chain and sprockets do look new.

So, plan of action is this:
Arrow Phone the dealer and double-check/grill them and find out what the crack is.
Arrow Phone up and arrange an MOT with the last place I got the VFR done
Arrow Tax the bike
Arrow Sit back and relax over the fact that the bike is now road-legal...ish

I'm accepting this is my own fault but I can't help feeling a little screwed over still. Has anyone else had a similar moment?

Up to you to check these things really. Did you not notice that you were missing an MOT certificate?

I go through my documents every few months to see which ones are out of date...

No I didn't go through them...that's why I am accepting the blame and calling myself a muppet. I think it's daft though how we get reminders to pay our road tax yet we don't get reminders about MOT checks.

No. When I buy my new diary before the end of every year, I sit and write down all the important dates from the old one. Then I am always in the know...when the date crops up. Thumbs Up

See, I was thinking of getting a diary for work purposes because I have a terrible memory and forget things I'm supposed to do all the time...maybe I should get one to put personal appointments and reminders in.

The garage I use for cars rather usefully texts me and gives me a call the week before my mot runs out, I don't forget, they get repeat business, everyones a winner!

There are plenty websites that will email you a reminder about things, if you're not a big calendar user.

I bet you can even find ones that text you.

By virtue of leaving off the MOT for a couple of weeks, I've now got it so my bikes tax runs out a fortnight before the MOT is due.

That means when the reminder comes through for the tax, I know my MOT is due in about a month.

Just set up your dates in Google Calender or the Microsoft one - you can set them up so they send you reminder emails as well before they are due.

So in all reality they might not have serviced the bike before selling to you either if they didn't stamp the book - I wouldn't be using them again for anything if that was the case!
