I normally use fast glass resin if it's gone pretty bad,

that'll plug the leaks & trap any rust & detritus stopping it blocking your tap & carb up,

I had a really bad experience with a rusted 250 Superdream tank once Shocked Would strongly recommend getting a replacement rather than trying to repair it.

you can get it in almost any car spares shop

the tank will have to be drained, rinsed out with some cellulose thinners & aired for at least a week before you start or it won't stick properly

I used a resin on the tank of my XT-250 but if its badly corroded then you might have to go search for a spare. Whatever you do, don't try to weld it !!
