Looking at some exhausts for my 09 R6. Was thinking of getting the Akrapovic Megaphone.

Anyway, I have been told most of the 'silencing' is done by the big ass Cat box thing on the newer R6's and Slip ons pretty much sound the same as stock. I don't want to fork out for a full system.

Anyone have or have heard a 06 or newer with just the Slip on? Does it sound any better? I have poked around on YT, but its hard to tell because of varying video quality.

Cheers.

Hiya mate,

I work at West London Yamaha so i seen pretty much all exhausts on the newer R6's.

Right-o the Akra megaphone and the racefit slash, fit after the cat box.

The bike is louder on the idle, but at rev's sounds exactly the same.

The R6 is a loud bugger at the best of times, and the standard can looks pretty nice.

Get a full system for best results =)

Get an 03-05 manifold, then just get the end of your manifold cut off where the slip on attatches, and welded on to the 04-05 manifold. Put the standard can back on, and there you have a nice loud exhaust for no money at all! I did this on my 06 R6, sounded great, got rid of the CAT and only cost me £80 for everything! Its a very common mod, I bought the 04 manifold already modified, sounded fantastic!

You can hold the EXUP open on the can for a bit more noise aswell!

My friend has an 06 R6 with a Akaprovic, sounds hardly any different to standard. He's doing the 03-05 manifold mod now Very Happy

What Sam says. That's the cheapest way of dumping the CAT. Power's a bit better than stock headers, but not as good as proper race headers.

Thanks for the help.

Would get a full system, but seems pretty damn expensive.

I will look into doing the manifold thing, but will find someone to help. Not much idea what i'd be doing Laughing.

And there was me thinking a Megaphone would be too loud on my bike...........
