okay,

Bike: NSR 125R 2001

Well i'm a little confused...

i have just done my fork seals and have got some 15 weight rock oil (gonna give that weight a try) and was just wondering how i fill it..

Aparently i fill to around 280 cc (ml?) but what is the general steps?

Do i have the fork off the bike and leave the spring out?

on the fork, where do i fill to? i know i need to compress the forks a couple times then take my reading with the forks compress, but where abouts to i take my reading from? The birm, the bottem?
Code:

     *       <- Cap (A)
    |  |     < - groove (B)
    |  |
    |  |     <- Mid (C)
    |  |
    |  |
    |  |    <-bottem (B)
   [    ]
   [    ]
   [    ]
   [    ]
   [    ]
    ---

The fork will be compressed but at what reading do i take? at pont B there is a groove around an inch or two down from the cap thread, anywhere there?

I know this is probably a really stupid question but from all the guides i can't make this out.

Thanks in advanced

Ryan

If you've completely stripped the forks to change the seals and emptied out all of the existing oil, you don't really need to measure the air gap, just the volume going in (with an jug or a measuring cylinder if you feel like being accurate. So it doesn't matter how about all that measuring complexity.

If you do choose the measure the air gap, then you do it with the spring out and the fork fully compressed (unless the manual states otherwise), and of course the cap off so you can measure. Poke something down into the oil, and measure the distance between the top of the oil and the top of the fork leg. This is your air gap.

Excellent! Makes sense Smile

Right, I finally need to know how much oil i need. For the 1990 model i think its 280cc (or there abouts) what about for the 2001 model?

Whatever the manual says. I don't think the NSR forks changed throughout its production life, so it should be the same.

I measured 280ml then had to add more. (around 30ml i'd say) i then measured from top of the fork down with a ruler 130mm and capped off. They seem really good (certainly a lot better than before)

PLUS! THEY DON'T LEAK!! Very Happy

haha Smile

Thanks alains! Your a ledgend!
