Still going through the processes for this, but the latest update is that they are disputing the claim. It seems my insurance havn't sent them the video yet, so they didn't know it existed and therefore have claimed that it was me who hit him.

I KNEW the guy would lie when it came down to it. Now I'm really tempted to drop the lying sonuvabitch in it, and maybe even give the footage to the old bill or something, as it makes me so mad when people won't take responsibility for their actions. I wonder if he could get done for lying for the claim..?

Because of his stupidity, it could have ended up costing me a small enough fortune that I probably couldn't afford to fix, and would have meant giving the bike up. Anyway, they're in for a shock, and I suspect will change their tune pretty sharpish when they do see the damning footage...ha!

Some good news, they've finally given me a salvage price of £220 (which I accepted) and a value of a grand. I've refused the grand, so assuming they go to say, £1100 (which I would take), that means I'll have £780 to fix the bike. Getting the bits off of ebay, that should be plenty, but the only worry is that they might require it to be 'professionally repaired', which would obviously bump up the price a lot. But, if not, it should all work out quite well.

Can't wait to get the bike back and running again. While this new Bandit is great, nice to ride, fast, good handling/stopping power etc, it just doesn't have anything the character that mine has.

Video still to come when it's all sorted, of course... Very Happy

People not facing their responsibilities, don't even get me started on that, I bloody hate people like that! Evil or Very Mad

He will get done for it if he lies in court about it, but if the video gets sent before that, he will suddenly change his mind pretty quickly I expect and won't even reach that stage.

Good luck!

I hope it gets sorted quickly. I also look forward to seeing the video.

Not having a go but when he stopped in the road were you in his blind spot?

I try and make sure I can see at lease one of the wing mirrors of the vehicle in front, as that means they can see me (if they use them) Thumbs Up

Cheers all.

@Bishbash: I agree, I doubt it'll get to court once they've got the footage. At least I hope not, I could really do without all that nonsense, even if I definitely would win.

I was, but that was because he had slammed his brakes on so hard because he'd missed his turning. I had been following him through the village previously though, and so he could see me (or at least, I could see his mirrors) so he should have known I was there. Also, it was such a violent brake and reverse that I had no time to warn him or get out of the way either.

@Wilson: yes, it is Smile

@Donny: Definitely! A £30 camera has saved me probably close to 2 grand!

I'd take a wander down to his employer and show them the video, and tell them they should have a word with both their driver and their insurance company. It's obvious he has lied on the claim form.

It's not all bad news if it somehow does go that far: I imagine the judge would take a very, very dim view, and (at the very least subconsciously) award a little more damages than he was going to Wink

I would definitely approach the police about it too (he must've committed a crime, i just can't think exactly which one, the cops may know - but don't hold out on it Wink ) because people like that are lying scum and deserve to be thoroughly bent over (legally speaking). If the guy is arrested for false representation/deception or similar, it will make a favourable difference to the case too. Win all round Laughing

I do think that once the case has cleared, you should take it down to the guy's employers and show them too. Put the boot in imo (but only when it's safe and legal to do so).

One less future liar on the roads Thumbs Up

I kinda want him to keep lying and for it to go to court. Then in the middle of the hearing you can slap the video on and watch him squirm. Then get to roll around in his tears of sorrow when he realises that his insurance company will cancel his policy for lying about a claim and he never gets cover again...

But I digress. It does irritate me that people these days dont fess up and will try and cover everything with a lie. Just admit you were wrong! Thats what insurance is there for!
