Hey guys

firstly I have done a bit of searching for relevant topics however I'm still a little unsure. So apologies in advance.

My rear tyre recently picked up a nail buried in a deep part of the tread, there's no evidence that it's leaking that I can seee at the mo however I don't feel so confident while riding knowing it's in there.

So I was looking at buying a new set of bt45s for my gpz500 to replace my currents, some Continental Avenue or something along those lines. They still have a good ammount of tread left but I've never felt really in confident with them at the best of times, and might have felt them slip at even slow speeds, though this may just be in my head.

I'm pretty keen on replacing them, but just wanted to check if any more experienced riders thought replacing both tyres would be a good idea.

Many thanks

paledude

It's up to you.

you can easily take the nail out and get the resulting hole plugged for about £30.

It depends on what part of the tyre the nail is in.

If it was a new tyre and it could be plugged then I would go for it. If it was nearing the wear mark then I would just replace it.

I probably should have explained in a bit more detail, just that I was using my phone to type so was a little hard.

I've done 2000 miles on them since I got the bike, and I have no idea how old the tyres were when I bought the bike, though they've still got around 1.5-2mm of tread left.

Also when I've been to garages and shops to buy things for my bike the tyres on similar specced bikes always seem to be a lot more rubbery than mine and I have heard of rubber not performing as well after so many miles, though I don't know how true this is or to what degree.

Thanks for the speedy replies anyways, and anymore advice is welcomed Smile

You might as well replace them if there is less than 2mm - under 2mm is what some people say to be looking change them anyhow, although the legal limit is 1mm (and lots of people on here seem to ride them until there bald). A new tyre will have about 5mm, and will probably be more confidence inspiring if you don't like the current ones.

Or just keep riding it with the screw in for a bit and keep checking your tyre pressures.
